Fuji Speedway is located at the foothills of spectacular Mt Fuji in Japan. The track in its current, Hermann Tilke designed, configuration is still reminiscent of the original version which hosted the very first Japanese Grand Prix in 1976; a memorable event that saw James Hunt clinching the World Championship in monsoon conditions when Niki Lauda voluntarily retired due to safety. Formula One returned to Fuji in 2007, ironically in a nearly identical torrential backdrop. The original race track boasted some very high speed and banked long turns, as well as one of the longest front straights in motor sports. Safety concerns and more modern, clinical, standards changed many of the corners although the current track still has an incredibly long straight. - Francesco Zargani
