Ford Escort RS

The Escort Mk1 was truly a groundbreaking car. Not only was it a success as an average "every man" car, it didn't disappoint on the race track either. Under the hands of racing legends like Hannu Mikkola, the Escort Mk1 dominated the World Rally stage well into the 70's and even 80's. However, tarmac was also among its long list of racing achievements, including numerous ETCC wins during the 70's. The 2000 RS carried a 2.0 Litre Cosworth Inline 4 that produces roughly 285 horsepower. But it more than made up for its shortcomings in the engine department with its fantastic power to weight ratio. Weighing in at a scant 890kg without driver, the Escort doesn't have the top end of its opponents, but it eats them alive in the braking zones and corners. Don't be afraid to dive deep into corners, and pitch the tail around the apex as the rear of the car gets light. Try to keep the revs up, as the Inline 4 doesn't have the torque of its Capri cousin. - Jerry Chen
