Porsche Fabcar: Sebring

I did quite a few laps before the race. All until David Fish sent me his setup, I was very uncompetitive. I got his set only a few minutes before qualify and was alot faster with it. Qualified OK, and started excellent with the clutch(see screenshot).

But I noticed that the car was getting more and more oversteery. I check out the tires and see that the rear were much more worn up than the fronts, which made me do a mistake and I had to pit to fix the car.

Luckily I didn't need to pit twice. Was 12th or so when I got back on track, and as the half race was finished I gained about 6 positions as some cars spun off or either pitted.

Just wanted to apologize for no-showing on this one. Went kayaking this morning and thought for sure I'd be back well in time for the race, but got held up. Was really looking forward to it too - I like Sebring a lot and these cars are fun there over the bumps!

I got taken out twice in the first corner by the same car on lap 1,drove a full lap on a flat tire,and came back for 11th from 19th. Not bad in my book.

There was confusion as to which version of the chicane would be run, but in the end this made little difference.

At practice yesterday evening, I knew David would be hugely competitive, as every time I set the bar up higher with a quick lap, he would immediately respond with something amazing, and just a notch faster. Well, a thick notch. So, the work was cut out.

These cars seem to have tons, and I mean tons, of speed potential; but, this speed is difficult to extract due to how hard these things are on tires. Just finding the right tire pressure is a chore in itself.

In the end I got a comfortable race setup worked in; something that wore the fronts and rear almost equally. A moderately soft rear spring rate, hard rear bar and between 8- and 9-downforce made for a nice, stable squat when accelerating out of the faster 3rd and 4th gear corners.

Congrats to the top 10, and especially to David.. You were a clean racer when you and I were back and forth in the opening laps.

Also well done to Larry! A tough pit stop meant last place and a lap down with more than 55 minutes to go. But you worked your way up cleanly... great job man.

Thanks Tim, for introducing this mod to R2P. I can't wait to see a series form 8-)

All I can say is.....I want more. I didn't do worth a shit but damn I do like these cars. I had ZERO practice until this morning. I got up at 6am to start working on a setup and learn the track and had a ball at the race. Thanks Tim and Todd for testing this mod. I think it will be a great one.

Practiced about 2hrs last night and was feeling all smug about my 2:00 flats thinking to myself 'I'm ready'. I log in this morning to find 1:53-5's! Whoa. Impressive....showoffs.

Qualified 15th. Ouch. Figured I was ok thinking there would be a lot of attrition, and there was, just not much. Wtg guys.

A bit of a rough start as I bogged it a bit, but it seemed all around me did the same. Just tried keeping a consistant pace of around 2 min and it would come around. I spun myself out on the first lap, got it corrected and off I went. Ended up with an 8th which I feel is good for me.

Traffic was awesome too btw. Good job.

Grats to Tristan. And of course the podium guys. Job well done.

Spent too much time making a Q set. My race set proved that. Nice at the start but the tire wear was off. Tried to make an adjustment during my pit stop and went the wrong way. That mistake cost me 2 secs a lap for the last 1/2 of the race. Tristan gave us all a nice schooling.

That was a blast!!

Tristan and Fish, you guys are unreal.

Had a great time for the first half dicing with Jeff, Kirill, Peter. Kirill and Peter looked like they were pushing a bit too hard there, as they got really loose and all over the place as the stint went on. Ended up just me and Jeff, about 2 to 3 second gap until the pits.

Jeff went in first, I had a little under 5 or so litres left I think, so I stayed out an extra lap. Jeff's unsolicited "go Sens" comment pre race was enough motivation for me. ;) Combination of probably Jeff entering the pits a bit slow, and me driving the crap out of that one lap, sliding the ass all over the place, punching the throttle hard coming out of turns. As I go in, do my stop, and come back out, I see Jeff behind me by 3 seconds. Woohoo!

Then Jeff went to work, I kept the gap around 2 for a while, until the tires went a way. He closed it to within 8 tenths or so. Then I made a couple mistakes running wide on a couple corners, Jeff closed right up. With one lap to go, on the last corner before the backstraight, that tricky 90 degree right hander, I botch the corner exit. Jeff gets a good run on the inside, but he carries too much speed, slides out. I brake early, cut underneath to sling shot back underneath him. But I misjudge his speed, I lift on the throttle, but my front left corner just barely breathes on his rear right bumper, he loops it. Doh.

I wait, but he slotted in behind me and let me have the position. GREAT FUN JEFF!

More Fabcar! That engine noise is pure bliss.
