I won't bore you with the details...

To the guy who was in 7th in the blue Corvette; Sorry, I wasn't trying to pass you in the grass. You were VERY laggy (despite a 65 ping) and I was trying to avoid you, not pass you. I know the last thing you want to see is the guy in 14th pushing to try to get around, but I was fighting to get my lap back after more problems than I want to talk about.

My luck HAS to change, I just know it. Wait, I have a lottery ticket for tonight's $65M drawing. Maybe all of these problems are leading up to a big win! If so, R2P servers will be funded for the next 2 years :)

Wow, that was intense. Started off nothing special, just at the back as usual. Made my way up to 10th or so, then traded back and forth, 10th, 11th, 9th, 12th, 10th, etc etc, from around my lap 40 onwards. It was just great door-to-door racing among us. Really enjoyed. I did bump on guy on the last lap, sorry, you slowed down more than I did and I couldn't go around you. I don't think it effected either of our outcomes. Great racing. Congrats to the winners.

I apologize to Chip, I went inside the grass to let him pass, but not enough and we touched and he got the worst part, at the end I thought he was 1 place behind me and brake the last corner to let him pass and make the position, but it wasn't him...

I was having a good race, but I was a little frustrated by trying to pass Edgar as he was blocking left and right, my frustration led to some spins and I wreck 1 time trying to catch up...Not upset at him at all, but frustrated at myself for not being able to pass around the blocking :)...

Congratulations to Samuel and Rychard, they put up a good show...It was fun watching them battle as they passed me... lol...

I blew it!! My first DNF at R2P, how embarassing. A total nerd mistake.

I started off great, did 20 good laps, most in 5th behind G Diduck by less than a second. I got a run on him down the stretch and I knew I could out brake him like I had done to gain time on him in previous laps. I did this and locked the brakes, slamming into the wall. I guess I got excited/nervous/stupid, I hope you got a good laugh GD!!

I let my comp sit for an hour, and came back with 5 or so laps to go, when my game crashed. Hope no problems arose.
Congrats to finishers. I'll get you next time.

I just can't believe this result...

I had a decent qualy and was able to take pole from Sam and he gave me T1 like a gentleman. I put 2 wheels off about lap 7 and he was able to get around me on the front straight. We settled in to about a 3 second gap when the pit stops started and I lost almost 10 seconds to him. I was content in P2 and maintaining the gap about 10 seconds when all of a sudden I was closing very rapidly. I got it down to 2 seconds when a crippled Viper made a curious choice to maintain a racing line through the chicane and he forced me off the road with 4 to go. The gap shoots back up to 4.5 seconds and I figure I'll just cruise home in 2nd when out of the blue a huge plume of black smoke from under the hood and my engine expires. There was no warning, no over heating, nada. Someone graciously pushed me across the line to finish 5th and for that I am thankful.

Sam was dominating and it's always nice to watch him drive so flawlessly.

Though I understand that engine failures occur in real racing, I just cannot agree with the randomness of mechanical failures online. I can't prepare the engine, car , brakes or any other part of the car so to have a mechanical failure is ludicrous. We have enough mechanical failures due to connection and computer hardware and software issues that we should not have to deal with random car failures. Running the radiator and brake ducts too low is something we can control and we are punished in game when we try and run them too low. I, however chose to run them on full to avoid these problems only to have the game decide that is it for me.

A very frustrating way to end an hour and a half race...

David, I'm not sure if I ended your race early or not? I saw the yellow flag, and the next thing I know, there you were. It was hard to tell if you were rolling backwards or not, then I froze like a deer in headlights. BAM. The last thing that I remember actually thinking was, "If I swirve left, I'm gonna lose control. If I try and keep it straight I might be able to squeak on by." Well, that did not work.

Sadly Richard, it is a hard coded item in the sim. Nothing we can do to change it, even if I wanted to. I do have all server set to "normal" wear, not "time compressed" so that motor should have (in theory) lasted a 3 hour race.

One thing you will get to know about GTR2, some engines are more fragile then others. The Ferrari engines were more fragile in GTR1...

There are a few lines in the ENG files that are worth a note;
LifetimeEngineRPM=(7100.0, 95.0)
LifetimeOilTemp=(100.00, 3.00)
LifetimeAvg=10800
LifetimeVar=2250

- Any revs above the 7100 rpm increases wear, and for every 95 additional rpm you are doubling the wear on your motor.
- Any temps above 100c increases wear, and for every 3c additional you are doubling your wear.
- Avg lifespan of your motor is 10800 seconds (180 minutes)
- Lifespan can vary by 2250 seconds (37.5 minutes) even without the added wear from rev's and/or temps. This is the randomness that is hard-coded.

Basically, it doesn't take long for you to use up the maximum lifespan of the motor which you can assume will be about 180 minutes (give or take a half hour). Every time you over-rev, you are greatly reducing the lifespan of the motor.

I was having a strong clean race, very clean actually, had a killer battle with Morissette early on, calmed down and tailed him +/- 1 sec for a while hoping to unnerve him and take advantage of a mistake. Was not to happen, had him for a moment when we got to lapped traffic, but then he really took advantage of some lappers and pulled a huge gap on me.

Through attrition and consistency with about 10 to go I was starting to feel all warm & fuzzy about scoring a top 5, but people of my skill level just aren't used to dealing with lapped traffic much. I need more experience. I missed my brake marker going around a lapper in T1, hit the wall, punctured a tire :(
Limped back to the pits, sat for about 3 laps getting repaired, and lost position back to 7th. Stupid, stupid, stupid, and only myself to blame.

And D Poel, that was me who had settled into cruise control mode at that point (before I lost my mind and my tire). NP dude, everyone's pings on my end were fantastic (55-100) but boy were were most of the cars jittery to me. The corollory must mean that I was jittery to most everybody else. About 4 times iirc everybody flashed out on me for 2-5 secs, and I was alone on the track wondering if I just got disco'd. I don't understand how the pings can be so good but the lag be so bad. Boy I love rFactor for that reason alone.

That wasn't nearly as bad as I thought racing for an hour and a half, longest race I've ever done. I think I might just enter that 2 hr Challenge race now :)

I had a great time.......while it lasted. I was in 4th at lap 54 and POOF!!!! It was really nice to put the Lambo through it's paces for so many laps. Everyone on the track was well behaved and it was going to be nice to finish in the top 5.

My race was over already, I hope this didn't end yours. My PC decided to do one of its spontaneous restarts that happens ocassionally in GTR2. I have no idea what causes it, but it was merciful in this case since I had already had so many problems.

Again, i hope this didn't ruin your race.

My first two GTX races ended after just over an hour. The best thing I can advise is not to raise the rev limiter above what is in the car file for your chosen vehicle (like Tim posted) and be careful on the downshifts.
