Intro to F1 '79

Went wide in turn 1, lap one pulled out and started accelerating and was creamed from behind. race over

I just barely brushed the armco and my car became undrivable. Tried to get back to the pits, spun, finally made it but the car overheated during repairs and my race was over. We need to TURN DOWN THE DAMAGE --I don't care if it's not realistic. The slightest mistake should not become a defacto DNF. If an alien league wants to go full-realism, that's up to them, but R2P needs to have a friendly league for people of ordinary abilities as well for people like me.

On a more positive note, it looked like everyone was doing pretty well this evening. I saw none of the really awful driving that is the norm in pickup races.

Wow, well. That was very interesting to say the least. Practiced with my great teammate, Brian, for about an hour or so before the event, and soon enough i was running competitive times with my race setup. With about 10 minutes to go i put on the qualifying set, and what do ya know!? I was a top 5 car! In qualifying i tried my hardest to get some open track, it took me 3 attempts, but finally i was able to get clean track, and qualify fourth (yay!). Then the race came, I was pretty scared to say the least, i knew i would be decent on the race set, just the first few laps would be hairy. And that it was. I got a great start and ended up 2nd going into turn one, but lost that spot coming off of 3, i was third into turn 5, then i looped it off of turn 5. Once i got back going.. the car was fine.. and i started to get back going. Little did i know, the rear tires were very hot. This caused me to spin and lose the front wing, and knock the front toe out of alignment. I pitted for repairs but the car was too damaged to continue to run. Race done, with only completing 2 laps. Oh well. Thats how racing is sometimes, eh?

Well I had a moment there on the first 2 laps where my talent left... but I was able to get it back under me and starting moving up. I had gotton up to 7th and was trying to catch 6th when my connection took a crap on me... oh well.

There's nothing wrong with the damage. Just map a key to the ignition and turn the car off if you have to sit still for more than 5 seconds. I pointed this out in the F179 thread almost a week ago. These cars didn't pit in real life unless there was something majorly broken. So far, only the Williams FW07 seems very sensitive to heat build up, which I think is a small downside for being the outright fastest car.

Well my 1st R2P race. And a shocker ! Just couldn't get it together. Apart from needing a LOT more practice to get a better setup, it's still good fun. Thought I'd give F1'79 a try, having driven a lot of V8 Supercars. Sigh . . .pratice practice practice !

No offense Paul, but I would *much* rather a guy DNF out from damage then to continue limping around the track for the next 30 minutes.

wish i could of made it, i think i would of given sam and the other front runners a run for their money. but reallife stuff came up, so i'll see you guys next time. as to the damage, it quite easy to avoid, just don't hit anything.

I'm wrapped to to get my first R2P win. I came close at Silverstone...didn't get to the first turn at Kyalami...finally got it right.:)

I got a great start and took the lead into T1. Frosty was doing pretty much the same pace as me so he wasn't able to catch up. I saw I was making a small break so I was able to relax and get myself into a good rythm. Something happened to Frosty mid race and Sam was behind me in 2nd. He was about 13 seconds behind so I slowed up and let him get about 2 seconds away, then got back on the pace. Sam pushed me hard but I was able to maintain the gap to take the win.

Thanks also to very considerate driving from all competitors I met on the track. It adds to the realism factor immensly.

Call me sick, but I really enjoy that track! Weird how the car understeers so much in a couple corners, though. I selected the late Clay Regazzoni's car as my little tribute to him. :) Screwed up qualifying a bit. Got held up in traffic on my first 2 fast laps. No big deal, but then I ran out of fuel before I could make it back to the pits and had to settle for 10th.

Got my usual daredevil start. :) Passed a few cars before the first corner. The opening laps were pretty thrilling as I had some close encounters with spun cars. Then Tom caught up to me after a few more. He took a look around the outside for T1, and then one up the inside for T4 but he got onto the curb and slid sideways into me a little, but we both were able to continue. On the last lap I noticed Frosty slowing dramatically. Didn't find out why until the last two corners when I saw his rear wing was missing. Sped past the poor guy as he spun into the wall. Brutal indeed! I've been there! :) Felt good to put Rega's car on the podium, though.
