Spec Rhez

My first Rhez race! It was just as fun as I imagined it would be too. Ran 2nd most of the race until Demitry ran wide and I snuck past into first. He had one hell of a charge back and caught me in the 2nd to last corner. I tried to protect the line and then the car just wouldn't turn!!! Unbelivable! Either way, a well earned win on Demitry's part, I am not making excuses, he was definately the class of the field, well done Demitry!

Started in good position P6 and was confident I would have a good race. The standing start I got the jump on the guy in front. Turn 1 proved to be horrendous as some slipped inside then he was rear end whice spun him around. Then I get punted which flipped me on my roof. The car some how righted itself. Since I came to race I put the car on the track to test to see if there is any damage. When the car seem to be handling normal I set about catching P13. 5 laps and I was going for P12. 3 laps I was after P11. 1 lap to go and I thought I would at least get a top 10. But I was blocked on turn 6 which caused me to spin. I couldn't get the car started so I took a dnf

well that was fun.

hadn't expected to do this tonight, but i checked in and there was a spot open; my chicken was out of the oven; my nephew's hockey game was at 2nd intermission; the race was short; so i figured what the hell...

it was my first ever rFactor race, having purchased the sim a couple weeks ago with the intention of doing some open wheelers, and i really wanted to start getting some experience with it.

so far, i think i've spent more time editing my plr file than driving.

i saw this on the R2P schedule last week, but after turning a few laps i found the oddly binary skid sound very distracting and downright irritating (of course this might just be a result of my plr editing, but i don't find the same problem with sthe "mods" i'm interested in).

in the meantime, however, i did discover that this is a great car for learning tracks, since it's slow and all about maintaining momentum.

of course that's the one thing i failed to do tonight.

my mistakes began with the green lights. i rode the rev limiter for two or three seconds before i realized that i wasn't gaining any speed. and, of course, each of my many mistakes after that were costly as the slightest little dissipation of momentum resulted a position lost.

as the race went on i found that a setup change i made after qualifying to try and balace tire temps, actually made things worse. i was dealing with 130+ degree fronts by mid -race, and a car that was increasingly reluctant to turn in to the apex, eventually resulting in a spin or two.

still, it's easy to keep this one in perspective, since i had no expectations coming in.

congrats to Dmitry and the podium. it takes consistent skill to maintain advantage in these things.

i'll probably try the Rhez series again, when life permits, simply because they're such a great challenge.

My race was virtually over when I entered the server and found out that we'll be racing Bigmingham Short, not Club :)

I have the R2P_S4_schedule.xls file which I got from a group somewhere here on the R2P site and printed it with all events I'm going to participate and there is Birmingham Club event listed. I know it's only my fault that I haven't double-checked and didn't notice that it would be Short version, though :)

Going to do triple-check before starting practicing for an event in the future.

It's all about fun. These cars are by far the best "bang for the buck" when it comes to simracing. Tonight didn't disappoint. Every lap is door handle to door handle racing. There was a little mess in turn one that separated the first five or six guys from the rest of us. Our bunch, six through twelve ran all over each other until the end. This is tin top racing at its best.

Yeah that was fun, thanks to Bert for the setup, that made a huge difference. My first race in these cars, had a great time in midfield, though I could give out the pressure much better than I could handle it:)
For econo boxes these cars are very thirsty! I had set the fuel to 5 laps in quaifying but only got 3 before the fuel light came on. Upped the race setup to 14 laps fuel, and just barely made it to the finish line.

This was my first time out in these cars, and I have to say that I enjoyed them much more than I expected.

I qualified in the top 5, but got involved in the T1 melee when the car outside came down on me into T1. Just a racing thing, but the replay suggests that I had the line into the turn, and that this one might have been avoidable.

No worries...I was able to get back on track, and had a great time trying to hold off Bert Owens for several laps. He eventually got by me, and we both gained some ground on 2 cars in front of us who were racing each other hard, with just a couple of laps left. The last lap saw us in a 4-way fight for 8 - 11, with me and Jay Freels door-to-door and bumper-to-bumper for the last several turns, with him inching me at the line by less than a tenth.

Overall a fun race (after T1) - I'll have to try these cars again! It was fun driving something on this track that can be tossed around more aggressively than most of the other cars out there.

These are always fun, but they go by too short and too quick!

Didn't think I was going to make it, come home at 9:18, run upstairs 2 at a time, turn the computers on and wait that interminable amount of time. Finally log in to R2P at 9:25 and see 2 minutes remaining in qual! Aack! Not only is everything else quick, Tim told me later only 5 minutes of qual instead of 10 with these.
I get one flying lap before checker with my default setup, oh well, at least I'm not last. Looking at times I'm sure I can be competetive near the front, but starting 13th is a hell of a handicap.
Race start/turn 1 was an adventure I partially got caught up in, it looked from my position that as we were going 3 or 4 wide into turn 1, someone ahead and to my right got bumped (I assumed) and came left (inside), I tried to avoid him but tapped him good, last I remember was him sideways and going back the other way as I continued to head for the inside and pray.
Whomever that was, sorry I tried like hell to avoid you coming down, if you're upset by all means mail me, I strive not to be thought of as an aggressive or reckless driver (see later).

So I make it through the mess and run down 4th in a right hurry. I'll never forget Tim telling us a few weeks ago saying that in this series some rubbing and bumping is expected :-) so I proceed to bump and lean on C Davis pretty hard on lap 3 and kinda pushed him out of the way in T2 to take 4th place before the leaders got away.
Then I immediately felt bad about it, that was a little much, I couldn't sleep with that. So I let off the gas and moved left up T3 to let him have the position back. Sorry Davis. Problem is, I let off too much!
Now I really had to run ragged for the next 6-8 laps to get back up his tailpipe. We swapped positions a couple times on the last lap, on the last double right complex on the last lap he slid a bit wide and I took advantage and got inside for the final time, held him off on the last left and ended up fourth.
That time was some good racin with Davis, very enjoyable.
I'll take 4th from a 13th start I guess, too bad I didn't get in in time for practice and qual, will have to speak with the boss about curtailing Sat night dinner plans :P Definitely would have liked to fight for that last podium spot.
