Intro to German Touring Car

I want to apologize to whoever i bumped during the race. After I came out of the pits, my car was in auto-pilot for some reason and no matter what I did, I couldn't get control of the car back so I escaped out to not get in the way of others.

After a rough start it didn't get any better. I pitted on the 8th lap, took rear tires, came out of the pit and got black-flagged, must've been my pit entry was too fast, but I thought it was okay. At this point I was in 9th.

So the next lap I do my stop-n-go and it takes 14.5 seconds. I thought it was supposed to be 10 seconds? Oh well.

Two laps later radio guy says tires are worn. So I stop waaaay early, take front tires. By now I was all the way down to 20th or something like that. I managed to crawl back to 15th, and finished 14. Overall not a good race for me.

Wow, great race. Spent a while practicing, but the whole time I had no idea where I stood, because I never knew what kind of fuel people were running.

Turns out I was quick though, and come qualifying, I got a very close 2nd place. Pole would have been tough. I actually had contact on my best lap, so there was definitely more speed, certanly a 10th or 2, but its so hard to get ultimate speed in GTR.

When it came time to race, I figured I'd be mr. sauvy and take no fuel for the whole race (which equals actually taking 0.3 liters every stop). When the lights went green, I had a good start and got the lead, and I kept it comfortably for the whole first stint.

Both of my pit stops went fine, except for the STUPID USELESS autopit feature. Developers think it makes things easier, but I think it makes things so much more vague, because you don't know how the car is going to turn. I was making excelent dives into the pits during practice. But anyway, the super autopit feature cost me a little bit each time. I lost by more than I think it cost me though, so I don't feel as bad. Turns out 2 tires was quicker than 4. I didn't know this. If I did, I would have experimented for sure. But, live and learn. This was my first race with pit stops.

The whole race I drove pretty conservativly, not really pushing until the 3rd stint. If I had a better idea of where competitors were on the track, I would have maybe pushed a little more. Again though, I don't know how much of a difference it would have made.

The only action was a short but intense battle with Ari. I cought pulled him in over 2 laps, then got right on his tail after he got cought up with a lapper. We were nearly 3 wide going into Para, and I did make some contact with him in the middle, but he kept his composure awesomely and drove out cleanly. A lil side by side into the prima varianta, a little side by side through curva grande, a little slip up in the second chicane, and a clean pass into Lesmo 1. Good stuff. Turns out that was my podium position right there.

Oh yeah, and the run to the checkered flag was almost in jeopardy as I JUST BRUSHED a spinning car coming out of Parabolica...it didn't even scare me because I was in too much disbelief. With no lost momentum, I just cruised to the checkers. A bit of a weird race, but I'm very happy with my result. This race was pretty intence, I look foward to more!

BTW, can someone clarify rejoining the racing surface:
Re-joining the track after a spin
No driver may rejoin the track until all traffic has passed and your car is facing the exact racing direction.

Does that mean the entire field or just any traffic behind you? I took that as the entire field after I read people getting booted for not obeying this rule in the spec GT3 race last Sat.

That sure was a fun race. If only I could wring a little more speed out! I would have put my wings at a negative number, but the game wouldn't let me!

Got a great start and made a couple of positions before turn 1 even. Made it through there nice and clean too. Nice job boys. By the end of the first lap, I was already up to 5th I think, (with the misfortune of a couple front-runners).

Came out in 8th after first pit, and then each lap I did after that, I would gain a position as I passed the pits. All the way to 1st! Whoa. Wasn't expecting that! hehe. Unfortunely, I needed to pit by then too. Damn.

This time I dropped down to 6th. Couple more laps and I'm back to 4th though, and pretty much stayed there for rest of race. Not sure why it suddenly changed to 5th on my approach to the checker?? (&^%$@#@#%&&!) But I'll bet it has something to do with the funky timing at the end of a race! I'll take 5th though.

Didn't really have any battles at all. Seems I did all of my passing in the pits and the only cars I came across were lapped. Managed to get by them with no problem at all as well. If only I could have closed the gap ahead a little. Was pushing hard at the end too. But the damn gap just held a constant 6 secs. bugger! maybe next time.....

Interesting race format with 2 mandatory stops , gives room for all kind of pitstrategies with tires. Decided to go with soft fronts , medium rears and the plan was to change only front tires both times.
Didn't have much time for a setup , but it turned out to be ok , thou it got quite oversteering at the end and at some point i was loosing 2 secs per lap to 2nd place.

Start went well , had a good getaway from the 4th place and i was breafly in 2nd place going in T1 , but took it easy and Barry got back to 2nd place.
Went a bit sideways there on exit but luckily these cars are quite forgiving and didn't have problems to keep the 3rd place there.Barry had some troubles in 2nd Lesmo and i went up the order 1 place again.

After few laps of hard chase i was right behind Christopher , who had a nice start and was running in the lead , but his pace was slowing a bit. I woke up my pitcrew just in case on lap 6 , and i'm glad i did it coz Christopher was having some troubles in Parabolica , but i was not sure if i can overtake him just yet , so i dived into pits and thought that i'll do it there.

New soft fronts on and after about 15 secs pitstop i was back in track :) (!! nice work pitcrew !! :D ). After few laps most of the drivers had done their pitstops and things were looking good from my POV. 2nd stint was lonely driving mostly and it was hard to keep consentrated , then on my inlap i had a big moment in Parabolica. Missed my brakingpoint and went sideways into the graveltrap while trying to stop the car , but luckily it didnt cost me more than maybe 5 seconds.

After the last pitstop i came out 4th (i think) but 1 by 1 cars infront of me pitted and soon i found myself in 1st place with 10 seconds gap to 2nd place driver. 3rd stint was quite dificult with worn medium rears but with some patience , car was still drivable. Last 4 laps were exciting , since i was loosing about 2 secs per lap and with quick math it ment that Barry would have been right in my bumper on last lap .But turned out that his tires were prolly giving some troubles too and i could held the lead to the end :D .

Good racing there with Barry , David and Christopher. Sorry about the 'sneaky' pitstrategy , but i felt i need to figure out something to compensate my minimal practice here ;).

I wish I could have raced, had qualified and managed 7th. Couldn't seem to get the car to settle down any, didn't adjust the springs for the lesser fuel load.

2 minutes to race start and my girlfriend shows up.

I pulled the car off track, hope I didn't hold anybody up too badly. I'd catch a glance of people flying by whenever I got near the computer, but that was it. I'll be looking forward to racing w/ everybody next time around.
