GTR Evo fun run

Q:
Up by four tenths in sector 2, then "next session" appears as I enter the last corner... argh!! oh well, third on the grid and on the inside line. Not bad at all.

R:
Got a rocket start using pretty low revs and got past Eric between he and the pit wall. Turn 2, shit! Cold brakes! D'oh! Sweep way wide with two tires in the gravel, and I did my best to re-enter safely. Had contact from a car beside me, and was out in the grass again. Not safe enough! I'm very sorry for whomever I got in the way of. Another trek off-road thru turn 3 and this time I think I re-entered OK.

After that I took off as fast I could but soon noticed my car was way out of whack. Oversteer when braking, understeer mid corner, and wild oversteer on exit! I fiddled with brake bias and got the entry-oversteer to lessen, but noticed it slowed me down quite a bit. Reset the bias back to where it was and decided to drive on the wild side. I was flip-floppin' my hands so often I felt like the whole race for me was just a single continuous Team America signal. "What's he saying? ...'Kiss Me?' ..."

Very very slowly Barry was letting me catch him, especially in the closing five laps, but there was no way I was going to get near him considering my poor setup. Great run Barry, you were very fast!!

I look forward to more with Evo, but I must play with my FFB settings first. I can't feel the slip angle of the front tires like I can in GTR2 or even Race'07. There is only scrub noise, which goes silent (??) when the tires are way past their optimum slip angle? I don't understand that.

Thanks Tristan. I do get lucky once in a while. Just not often enough.

With a 2nd place on the grid I thought I had a good start until over to my right I see Tristan walking away heading into turn 1 and just pulled in behind him knowing he was going to be gone in just a few laps but to my suprize he got very generous into turn 2 and ended up handing me the lead. Little by little I started inching away and by half way I had a 5 or 6 second lead so just tried to keep it on the track and ended up winning the darn thing. Great fun with this mod and looking forward to the next one.

Great race guys! These are cool car to drive. First try on the S7R and honestly i quite like it. Haven't got the pace of the front runners but i was able to stay with them for the 1st part of the race. However 10 laps in an I started to struggle with excessive front wear and lost the balance of the car. Was very lucky to came in 3rd, 1 more lap and Garry would had me.

Looking at the screenshot and I have to apologize to Doug for hitting him out at T1 as I dived in too hot. I was struggling and ice skating at the back, I think I need someone to teach me how to drive this track specifically.

I bailed on this one..too tired. I like evo but... The cars don't feel right.No front grip one lap & slippery the next.
I don't use FFB ( ecci ) but I know what Tristan is talking about. I think a patch is needed.

I have felt the same. I think it is the slip angle numbers coming into play. It is very snappy, the transition to a good slip and a bad slip angle. That I am OK with, the feeling I keep getting is how it "wobbles" back n forth between an on/off switch of good and bad slip angles.

Im not sure how to put it... like I put the tire into too much angle so it exceeds the slip angle and loses grip and begins to slide. That is fair enough, but then because of the sliding the slip angle falls back within the coded limits and the tire suddenly regains grip only to exceed the slip angle again and lose grip, which puts it back into the slip.... and all this is happening in a half second while I am trying to get to my apex.

I find myself trying to compensate when all I really need to do is ignore it and plant my right foot :-)

I also use the ECCI (no FFB) so I think it must be hugely odd to someone using FFB

EDIT - Got me wondering if this may be more associated with proper coding of toe and caster... It's a long shot, but maybe Simbin went the correct direction here and we just are not use to it? It's worth taking a look at with some different front end toe/caster/camber settings.

Good thinking Tim, I will play with those settings more and report back after the next GT Pro event...

Seriously? no FFB? maybe that's why I'm so terrible with rF ;) FFB makes this game IMHO
