ILMS: Long Beach Enduro

Congrats winners of this long race.

Now let me shout: Oh, no, not again !! Engine failure two races in a row. No white smoke, no red flames, just a dead engine. Anyone got any ideas why this happen? Yesterday I had the same problem with the Howston, but fortunately the engine came back to life after a few seconds. This time it didn't.

Well, Started from P13 and was soon in P9 following Mike Erickson, had a spin and dropped to P12. Next lap another spin and dropped two more spots, climbed up gradually and when I was chasing P10... puf! dead engine at the S/F straight.

Appart from this, I always get some stuttering at Long Beach no matter what mod or low settings I use. Is it usual when using the FPS version?

not sure how far into the race you got but one thought, Fancisco: were you using the sprint engine?

if i remember right, the sprint engine has an average lifetime of 2hrs, with an random varience of 50 minutes! then you have to factor in the engine temps, etc.

big risk in a 2hr race.

beyond that i don't know.

as for my race...

ended when i suffered a computer crash at the change from Q to Warmup.

then, after a restart, because i _was_ running the ILMS on my full rFactor install, i sat there for about a minute waithing for the damn game to let me try to rejoin. too late!

i've now installed ILMS in a brand new rFactor instance. boots in seconds rather than minutes.

live and learn.

Pulled out a PB to get pole in class and 2nd on the grid behind Steve.

Going down to T1 for the first time I just saw Steve's car vere off to the left and I shat my self lol, didn't know what was happening but Steve Just vanished. Got round T1 safely though then realised Steve probably lost his connection :(.

So now I was in first overall and I concentrated on getting some fast laps in to try and get a gap between 2nd. It was looking good and I was holding around a 2 second lead.

Around 10 mins in though I noticed the placing screen go crazy, and my gap to everyone was flying up. Prayed that it would sort it's self out but after 30 odd seconds and it showing me a lap ahaed of everyone I just waited for the connection lost message, which duly followed :(.

Mixed feelings really cause I hate the track, but I was looking like I had a decent pace to maybe get a good result. Can't stand getting DNF's neither.

Waste of time & energy,computer froze for about 5-6 seconds entering the first corner,first lap & that was the end of that,not to worry,got to see F1 race.Apologise to those who were caught up in it :(

Tough race- hardest I've ever worked for a lousy 6th place finish. With all the stuttering during practice, never really had a chance to get a rhythm figured out. I think if I had a better practice session or 2 I could have been quite a bit faster.

A punt into the wall (thanks for that, by the way) forced me to pit about 25 minutes in. After the next cycle of stops, I was about 45 seconds behind Ralph. I was frantically trying to close the gap, had it down to about 35 when I stopped making progress. Then all of a sudden Ralph is gone. Too bad.

Then crashed again on my own, stopped to repair the damage, and had a nice fight with Ken to the finish. Had just enough fuel to get to the end, luckily- ran out on the cool down.

I may miss Watkins Glen, which will be too bad if I do, should be a fun race.

Well my predictions came true, the same as everybody else's actually :), and I ended up with car more resembling a Grass Track Kart than an LMP racer. I had that many yellow & red indicators on the damage display that I thought someone had turned the street traffic lights on to confuse me.

What was even more surprising, particularly after the widespread stutters lots of us were experiencing, was that I actually made it to the end of the race. Going into T1 in 14th at the start, I got an almighty whack up the back from a silver car which took us both into the escape road alongside Silvino and couldn't work out where he came from. Watching the replay it was Steve Davis, obviously better at snooker than race-driving..;), who did several disappearing\re-appearing acts, maybe lag or stutter related? How did you see it Steve?

Edit: Just seen your post Steve, after I added mine. Figured it was something like that. And now I know why it was slippy in T1 afterwards - it was all the Shat from Kieron!

This dropped me to the back once again and a long run to the 1st stop with the damage incurred. I managed to only hit the barriers a half-dozen times and ended up racing Josh for the final places of those still running. We both managed to c.ck it up at different times, thanks for the 2nd big rear-end hit of the day mate ;), so it was good to get to the end after the disappointment of yesterday at Magny Cours.

Grats to Mike for getting 5th and commiserations to the other Bad Voices drivers, Barrett & Ralph, for suffering their different problems.

Well good race it was a shame so many people had problems.

Qualifying went ok with 3rd on grid and 2nd in class I know there was more there but whatever.

First lap as Steve said he just disappeared then it left Kieron and myself behind him. Kieron got about 2.5secs on me and we stayed around that for awhile as I didn't want to push too hard too early and he didn't probably either. Then lap 9 like he said he disappeared too. After this I just tried to nail consistent laps to first stop. Came out of first pit with Charles about 19secs behind. Ran shifting very early and conserving fuel. Made my 2nd stop and it repaired damage that I had checked not to do so that turned a 15sec stop to 43 or something. Came back out only 3.4 secs in front of Charles, and just pushed pretty hard from there since I hadn't run my motor that hard.

Look forward to Watkins and not driving with so much damage. I'm sure everyone spent some time with the wall.

My first attempt at these cars. Got to the track late with only a few laps before qualifying. I had practiced in the 1:10's but it always takes me a good number of laps to get up to speed. Figured I'd start at the back, race the track and run conservatively and try to make to the end. Well the plan worked up to a point as I lost the engine somewhere past the 1 hr mark. In my haste to get online I forgot to install the 4 hr. engine as Barrett suggested. Beginning to like these cars, but don't feel comfortable trying to race wheel to wheel with anybody yet. That should change with more track time I suspect. Definitely one of the better rFactor mods in terms of physics modeling.

Hello everyone, 1º time for me a race like this and I can not say what went wrong, start at 8º position but just hang in T1 i brake too late and I fell many places. Up to 1 hour was a good fight but from there, with many dropouts, it's noted some fatigue among pilots but it was very funny can not wait for the next, congratulations to the winners

I was having fun. A couple spins, no biggie. This was the first time racing this mod and I was working on getting comfortable with the car. I was going along the front stretch 28 laps into it and blew the engine :(

Looking at Motec I was overheating it. I should've checked before the start and adjusted the radiator opening. I don't think there was any indication leading up to the failure, that I was overheating.
