I guess I should start out with; sorry to Nickolay for the race ending punt. He ran off slightly at Ascari, and I got through, but had to lift off slightly on the exit having run off line to give him space, then when he drafted me and got back in the lead there was about an inch between us. I went to move to the inside before the braking zone, reckoning I could get the place straight back, but he braked earlier than I was expecting and I caught the corner of his 'vette. Last time I base a move like that on what I expect from the other driver, as it still leaves me at fault. I took the drive through the next lap round, having realised I really was responsible for it, and dropped me back in behind the Tom Rue/Ed Jones battle by about 12 seconds.

The next phase of the race I was just stabilising things, then went on the attack. I managed to get the gap to Tom down to about 3.5 seconds, but then screwed up a couple of corners, dropping back a couple of seconds, but then managed to get back on it, and got the gap down to under 2 seconds at one point, and then while checking times managed to run wide out of Grande (something I knew I should watch for from practice) and got a puncture. Managed to limp round for the start line, but alas I was a lap short, and dropped the place to Paul, who I'd had about a 12 seconds lead on (at least a few laps prior).

I'm definitely not going to fall for early braking again. I'd rather lose time on being way off line, or braking way too cautiously than end someone else's race, let alone potentially mine. The old adage about finishing at all to finish first is spot on (preferrably not in Jackie Stewarts voice). I intended to keep my head down, but once in that place... I really should have focused on just drafting on the straight, as I was braking well into Rettifilo. I did better in both quali and the race than I was expecting, as I'm really not a fan of Monza.

Congrats to both Muellers and Les. And to Tom for driving a far more consistent race than I, and keeping that place.

No Qualy, good start out of the carnage aisle, worked up to 4 after I accidentally tapped someone off in 1, took a stop and go - I mean drive through, and just cruised, bringing up the rear.

What a bone head am I - I saw the clock hit zero, crossed the line and thought that was it. DOH!

My 1st time racing EVO and the Sport cars and I experienced something rather strange. While sitting on the grid for the start of the race I kept hearing these loud popping sounds. I couldn't figure out what they were or where they were coming from.
Then when the race started I noticed right away that I had several holes in my windshield! It looked like the type of damage that a rock would do if it hit the windshield and suddenly I realized what the popping sounds must have been...rocks bouncing off my windshield!
Not sure if I am going nuts or what. I didn't think you could even rev your engine in EVO until the very last few seconds before green, so I don't see how it could have been a car throwing them at me. But what else could it have been?
A miniature meteor shower?
Very strange. I wonder if anybody has had this happen to them? I checked the replay and it doesn't show any flying rocks, in fact it even shows my windshield in good condition.

Enjoyed my first EVO race, fun cars to drive. Looking forward to racing more with them.
