GTR Evo fun run

I just dropped in an hour before race to get some practice in. It was my second time running this sim and it was really tough to get stable, but by race time I had managed surprisingly fast pace but wasn't consistent. Race went alright for a while as I was running 3rd and then started to make mistakes. I rear-ended someone coming into T1 (Can't remember who but really sorry about it). He didn't loop it though as he handled the slipping rear very well and we were back on our way. After that I was really reluctant to drive fast because I didn't want to be bumping anyone around and was still getting the hang of these cars. That distracted me and soon enough I put it into the wall and ended the race because I couldn't figure out how to pit and fix stuff.

I pitted twice. THe first time they didnt do anything and when I hit enter on my pit screen, they just said go. So I wasted 10 or 15 seconds doing nothing and went on my way and then pitted again the following lap. I brought up the pit menu and requested the pit and selected "ALL TIRES" and no fuel and the damage indicators didn't have any option to change them so I guess either they automatically fix or they don't fix at all. That pit anyways didnt do anything either. They told me to choose my settings or whatever so I brought up the pit window and hit enter again and then they just told me to go. So I just exited the race because I wasn't going to gain anything and didn't want to wreck anyone driving around damaged.

Anyways, long story short I didn't have a clue what I was doing with the pits but my impressions of the sim are about what I expected. I will probably just be using this for running nord laps offline for fun and that's about it.

Sure would be nice to see a Porsche in there, too. Not to mention a Ferrari.

On the pit board after you make the necessary changes you cursor down to the last option, Accept?, and make sure it is highlighted, then press the Enter key. If it's not highlighted nothing will happen, you'll just waste your time in the pit.

As for the race, I'm really surprised by how easily the car, Audi, is upset by a slight touch on the curbing. Several times the car was sent spinning with just a minor touch on the curbing. I don't recall seeing that behavior in a real life race. Oh well, it doesn't have any real effect on my race outcome anyway.

The default springs seem to be set pretty stiff. I soften the springs (6 or 7 clicks) and the car reacted much better over the curbs. Depends on the curb, some you can touch, others you can't, and some you can just use an few inches and no more.

I spent a lot of time in pits, trying to change my Tire choice -- apparently if one sets up a Preset to include tires, overriding to No Tires isn't an option for that preset. FYI, make sure you have a separate Presets with NO tires and select that preset, don't try to change existing preset.

The Presets are a great idea, you can define any number of pit scenarios before you race. I usually hit pit request, then bring up my pit menu about 1/2 lap before entering pits, and just select a preset either on track or while chugging done pit lane. As discovered earlier, you don't need to touch the starter and/or ignition button, it will turn off automatically and fire up automatically.

Also, it seems the tire change crew have improved their skills -- tire changes seem to happen faster. Guess the crew figure out how to hustle :)

Not sure why Nurburgring GP was selected for fun-run? But would be nice to see some of the other better quality tracks in the fun-runs.

As far as physics, feels pretty good, my only complaint is that the rear end sometimes goes into what I describe as "Null Space" -- I know it's sliding but there is ZERO sensations and all one can do is wait for FF to come back. I honestly think this is a bug and not "by design", if they can sort out the oversteer "feel" I think they'll have a winner.

I had trouble also, but only if I got the tire over the hump on the tall curbs. It would just grab the wheel and off you go. Hitting them on the inside of the curb was OK and the low curbs were just like part of the track with no effect on handling.

Want to make a comment about accidentally hitting ESC while in race...

Why in the world don't they at least put a confirming OK/Cancel in there so you can cancel out and not blow you race.

Am I the only one who has ever accidentally ESC'ed out of an event?

I couldn't figure out how to deal with the pit board anyway, shades of my 1st races at TMcArthur.net with GTR. lol

Dan, GTR Evo makes you hold ESC for a second to be able to exit. I think that's a great way to sort it out.

I had a nice run in the Audi in both the race and qualy. The car/sim has as nice feel overall. I, like Rob, softened the springs quite a few clicks to make the car easier over the curbs. With the stock setup, it was instant spin if you hit the curbs.
I must have a button miswired as I could not, for the life of me, accept my pit call strategy. I sat and sat and sat and sat and beat the enter key off my keyboard. I got going again without my fuel and ran out on the last lap. Nice race everyone. This is a very nice sim and am looking forward to running a series.
