lap 48 in 3rd, another game lockup.....

So what's a good, reliable videocard these days? (besides nvidia 8800)

My problem wasn't a video card. More like 120+ mph against the wall.

Well after an 45 minutes my race ended. Mostly ran the race alone. Not to exciting. The only hard part was trying to control the car under this wet track.

my 8800gts tends to freeze the game when it gets hot. i don't have an exact temp because it's always cooled down by the time the computer reboots.

i started running the Nvidia Control panel at every startup and setting the fan to manual control at 100% (the default is only 60% and i don't think it goes any higher until it's too late). i had to do this at every startup, because the thing wouldn't hold that setting for some reason.

when summer came i opened the case side and had a small fan blowing on it as well (no air conditioning).

no lockups as long as i remembered to do all this. last freeze was when i forgot to turn the supplemental fan on.

now i've built a new computer and for some reason the Nvidia control panel no longer has the fan setting. so i've installed rivatuner and use that to set the fan to 100%.

no freezes as long as i keep the case temps down.

Such hard work, went with soft wets and they seemed ok but in the 2nd half of the stint they got really hot on the rear and the back would occasionally just snap out on me. Once it went there was no stopping it and I lost it a few times. Put hard wets on the rear for the 2nd stint and I was still atleast 2 secs off the pace, Heinz went with inters and immediately started hitting fastest laps. I made the decision to try and reach my next stop and just minimise the damage. The leaders lapped me and I started making alot of errors towards the end of the stint again. Eventually picked up some serious damage which was a long way overdue to be honest. Got to the pits and filled up but there was a lap or 2 too many left to do in one stint. I put inters on and immediately felt better than I had all race long, I started to short shift but Martin was too close to back off too much. In the end I had to back off even more but just came up a lap short so had to stop with one lap to go. Martin had already taken 4th because I was going so slow.
Really disappointing performance, just couldn't keep the car on track for long periods and paid the price. Well done to all the finishers. Unlucky Charles, discos always suck but especially in a 3hr race.

Had practiced quite a bit before the race, and reading the pre-race banter, I knew I had the pace to do some damage.

Praccy was damp which threw me off guard, made a lot of silly mistakes, but eventually got it together.

Thankfully qually was bone dry and my dry setup really kicked in, taking 2nd spot on the grid, a tenth behind Heinz.

Race, and it was damp again. Tugged in behind Heinz, I was faster overall through a lap, but he had better speed off the corners, where I was struggeling with the sudden boost from the turbo.
Made a few errors, including tapping Heinz (sorry about that), but finally made it through in the chicane before the last corner.
Opened up a sizeable gap and pitted. That went without a hitch, as did the entire 2nd stint.
Pitted again for my 2nd and final stop, but unfortunately got a stop n go for speeding because the speed limiter didnt kick in until I pressed in the second time.
Had to serve that which lost me around a minute.
Then quickly calculated that I was really close on fuel. Immidiately turned the pace down 5-6 secs a lap to conserve, which allowed Heinz to close back up. Eventually finished 1st with 0.3 litres fuel left and Heinz 7 secs back.

Well, 3hs12min in raining!! Fabulous!!

Although i didn´t fight for the podium, I am very satisfied for having finished it.
Even more because on wetted track i didn´t nothing practice at all practice and I had to do it during the race itself jejejej.

firstly starting with soft wet tyres, but not only that was going badly if not that around half of tank already ant they were consumed, in the second section i choiced the intermediates and that ones for me it was the best election, easily 2 or 3 seconds faster than the others, and to finish I put the hard dry ones but they were walking worse than the first ones and it never raises from 60 degrees, with which my last 20 laps i drove with lot of care principally on having gone out of slow curves, and i can´t go so easy because i had Sergey behind forcing too cause we are fighting in the same lap.

I congratulate to the podium, the three of them in a minute time after 3hs10min of race, excelente!! and also to the four following ones who we have finished it on track.

Nothing much to say about this one. In first lap I did more mistakes then for whole week of practising on this event. The end came when I get stuck in the sand on lap 6:(.

I had a gamefreeze while standing at the grid waiting for the 2 minutes to pass and the lights to go green. Damn ... was really looking forward to this one. I asked Tim to remove me from the results cos I never actually started the race. Had to reboot to get things working again. :-(

Grats to Jan on the win, you had it waiting for me on a golden platter i'll add, but I made about 6 mistakes in the final stint when it mattered, and couldn't take it from you.

This silly patch makes tyre choice so difficult .. After blizting the pole on a dry track (the only time i was sure about my car) i was not able to keep jan behind me for long in stint 1, and once he got passed, he was gone. I also made successive mistakes dropping me to 5th at one point. After getting back onto the right tyres (inters) i started clawing back... WAs about to tackle and dismiss charles to 4th when his car froze infront of me, not how i wanted to get on the podium, unlucky charles.

Then came andy, but got passed pretty easy after tailing in and out of Eau Rouge.

Finally after seeing Jan pity early, and go back in the pits, i was left 40 seconds behind and noticing his lap times drop badly ... he was short shifting... I took if easy for a few laps aswell to save enough fuel so i could put in a hardcore effort to close in and take the win... I spun 6 times doing it and after all those time wasting mistakes, i had reeled Jan into 4 seconds but it was too late .. so ticked off about the wet track
