Montreal F2

I'm at a loss for words. I'm purposely skipping out on sim racing for a while now.

Had a good qualifying, and then was confident at the start.
Had a bit of wheelspin and was hit by a few cars. Hit the wall, broke the front wing. Went back to pits, fixed the wing, came back out. Set the fastest lap for 2 or 3 laps.. and somehow miraculously broke the front wing again! I can't believe how easy that thing breaks!

Went in to pit for the second time and came out. Thought I saw igor go through turn one, so I was convinced I was clear to go ahead. Coming out of the pits and entering into the turn I clearly hit him. Knocking him from the lead. Clearly the car I saw was not him and I am completely at fault. I am gravely sorry Igor.

After hitting him, it was only a matter of about a minute before my entire computer locked up and went into a sound loop. It has never done that before. I have no idea.

I can not believe how many things went wrong for me. This is my favorite track, in my favorite type of car. Sorry for any trouble I caused anyone else... I've apparently got a lot to learn.

Nothing but problems at this track. Between lockups and near misses a barely survive this race.

Dennis and I were racing for a few laps but one small mistake T13 costs me a position P4 to P5 after that I made another mistake. So settled in P5. After dodging a few cars I pit and came out with the position I started with P5 with DC 12 seconds ahead. After a few people made mistakes on some of the chicanes I gained two positions only to lose it on the last chicane before the hairpin. I thought the car suffered no damage but as soon as I brake for the hairpin the rear end stepped out to the right and into the wall again. I was tempted to esp but no cars were behind me so I lipped home to 3rd. A very ugly finish.

was slow and brakes where locking up bad. at start i missed a gear and then hit andrew. repaired it and went back out a lap down.then i just quit

Practiced with the wrong car, fianlly made it off the wait list, Thanks Tim.

Thanks to team mate Chris for the setup, I had nothing.

Race went very well for me, no major mistakes and a great car (Chris)
Had a great battle with Kevin, for a number of laps it seemed like, kept me very honest Kevin, and then he made a minor mistake. Finished second thru mistakes of others, none by me (finally) and a bit of pace.

This was a very interesting race. It's been awhile since I've actually looked at a replay. Andrew didn't use Launch Control or didn't use it properly...it's really necessary in Formula racing. I managed to get by him before he turned into me...at least I didn't get any damage. Andrew...the repairs are not 100%, so yeah...it takes less to destroy any parts that are yellow.

I had an initial battle with Chris for 2nd that was very hot including a tag on my rear turning my rear wing yello, but when I got past him I was able to pull away by lap 4. But, Igor had a 7 second gap. By lap 8 I had that down to 4 seconds. Then Andrew came out and tagged Igor. Igor was defending his position and pulled into my line and slowed which resulted in my running into him, but not for the first time. And, now I had damage on the rear from Chris and damage on the front from Igor. The car really didn't get too loose, so I stayed out and reeled Igor back in. He spun at the hairpin and I managed to avoid hitting him.

But, Chris was right no my tail...and I made a couple of mistakes and he went by me at the hairpin on lap 12. Then on lap 14 I flew by him using the draft and regained 1st. If only I could have taken it easy I would have had an easy victory, but I kept making mistakes. Then on lap 16 I spun at the hairpin. I did it again on lap 19 which let Igor by me again.

On lap 23 I made my biggest mistake and allowed the pit crew to repair the car...when 80 seconds flashed up on the screen my heart sank...I knew my engine would overheat and perhaps expire...and I have forgotten to set a button for ignition and starter. I got lucky this time...there was smoke, but I got underway before there was fire. However, it put me over a lap down...back in 9th place.

I had some "fun" with Dennis and Ruslan even though I was a lap down...especially on lap 39 when I spun after the last corner and rolled into Ruslan's line...sorry man.

Sorry Steve. Once again, I know i made a big mistake. It hasn't left my mind for a couple hours now.

I didn't use launch control, because I feel like it always spends too much time on lower throttle to keep from wheelspin.
Usually in these formula races I expect others to use launch control so I try to gain a bit of an advantage by not using it.
Normally I'd put on a bit of throttle, then pull off clutch and let the car spin up just a little bit (no more than a half second) followed by reapplying power gradually.
Well I've learned my lesson. Launch control from now on.

Great result for the podium though. I hope to see you all next time. And Igor/Steve/Mike, you'll be sure to see me in better form in the next race.

It's not a big deal.

Could be much better but some things happened and I am satisfied with no DNF this time. Major brake failure on lap 41 (5 laps to go) when I was at confident 2nd could cost me that 2 points. :)

QUAL - OK. Pole (2nd time in the row at this track with this car) with some 0.2xx slower time than my PB. Andrew had some trouble on qualifications. He was the threat this time. Next time, I should try 1:15s. He is keen to take my record:)

START - Clean. Took some distance in couple of laps and that disturbed my concentration so I missed the break point on the big straight and lost that rapidly. Then came...

LAP 8 - turn 2 - Small contact with Andrew - surprised. Where did he come from?!? PITs? Well, this is racing, and you can count on that sort of things. Sooner or latter.
I am sorry that Andrew had that problems at the start of the race.

LAP 8 - next turn, contact with Steve. I didn't realised that he is so close and so keen to take my position just after my spin that folowed that contact with Andrew 10 seconds earlier.

LAP 10 - hairpin - Spin. Lost 2 positions. From 1st to 3rd.

LAP 19 - hairpin - Steve spun. I gain 1 position. Now I am 2nd.

LAP 21 - pit - Took some 30 seconds to repair the damage from those 2 contacts on 8th lap. But, the car gone better from then on. I am confident again.

LAP 32 - I started to push some more, to try to catch (or just to disturb Chris) the leader, from my 2nd position that time. But, Chris was consistent. And, it was better for me to slow down a bit, as my position wasn't attacked. The worse was just around the corner at...

LAP 41 - the car went straight on the brakes, with some 20% of the full braking power. And took me to the left. Next corner to the right. The spotter anounced "the brake failure". OMG. From then on, I tried to stay on the track, made some 10+ wide cornerings without any braking power and did a complete mess of my 2nd position.

At the end 7th. That is better that DNF. Isnt' that?

Trying to gain 1/2 second or even a full second by not using launch control is insane...it's a 46 lap race...all F2 races are 200km 2/3 of the full Grand Prix 300km...certainly you can make up 1 second or a position or two with a bit of driving instead of turning everyone behind you's race into a 10m race with wheel spin as well as putting you in last place and over a minute down way more than you would possibly gain. The risk is too great...launch control is guaranteed not to have any wheel spin and even the most perfect manual launch is only going to get you 1 second or 1 position at most.

I hope this doesn't sound like a rant...it isn't...it's just a confused brain leaking thought out through fingers. Maybe if doing math was more fun more people would do it.

Your completely right steve. I just didn't think about using launch control before-hand becuase I've never had a problem with it before in previous F2 races.

I had a really nice race pace in the 17's as well.
Can't wait for it to come round next time. :-)
