GP79: Mosport

Heyyyy!!! BIG sorry guys, i was supposed to race with you, but, as i'm on vacation, things don't exactly happens as usual and had an invitation i couldn't turn down:)
I suppose we will be racing different cars and look forward to come back wheel to wheel again!!

It was a somewhat tricky track for the season finale. Short but dangerous in the F1 79's! One slip and you almost always end up in disaster. The grass is so slippery that the barriers / walls may as well be right at the track edge, as Milan mentioned 'like Monaco'.

I couldn't do more than about 10 laps maximum before smashing my car up in practices! Though often I end up that way but then raise the focus level tons for a race, to be sure of safety and survival. Though this is tougher than other tracks to achieve that succesfully!

Qualifying the Lotus79 on a short track means you can run Rad_1 on a few tracks, and this is one. But to do just one flying lap without smoking you need to baby the car around the outlap, though it is worth it because for Mosport Rad_2 down to Rad_1 is worth close to one full second in lap time!
So I did my first run with Rad_2, which was quite a good run, and then I was going to do a Rad_1 run but then couldn't be bothered having to do the very slow out lap and went with Rad_2 again instead. I expected to see Milan run faster late in the Qual session, and probably take pole, but he did not.

The race all went to plan - almost. More focus... no crashing... good pace and safety. The car was set up very well so I kept pushing it to the max every lap, and as the fuel got lower I was thinking "I should get a 1:08 somewhere soon" and then I did finally make a boo-boo and messed up Turn 2 with about 3 laps to go when I clipped the inner left 'edge' which threw the car into a high speed spin just after the half way point of the turn!! It was very lucky that I crashed so much in practices as it meant that I knew how to deal with problems at almost any track areas! Not that you can save many successfully, but it saved me this time!
So luckily I got to race on to the finish unscathed! Phew!

Unbelievable... R2P erases passwords after qualy starts... but in its policy allows drivers to join anyway... so if it erases passwords it should be on race start.

Got just in time for race (chris gave me the pwd on msn)... but in the garage it showed me "Fixed Setup"... couldn't see what did it showed but probably not my setup... so tried to change the setup... race started... I'm off... what an end of season... pretty stupid stuff cause I forgot to join the server... I was ready at 15 mins before qualy started... but remembered to join in the last minute... exactly when R2P website decided to erase my password so there was no way for me to enter the server... so well.. aftwerwards Chris gave the password but it was too late...

See you all... in another life... haha... on to race some modern cars...

NOTE: those times pete was doing were really good but I still think I miss a chance to battle with him... I was doing 1:09.0 with radiator in 2... and if what peter say is truth.. I should go low 08's on full qualy set. Oh my god I lost an opportunity for some good racing.

Aw man..What an end to my career of F1 79 racing lol. Yet another DNF.
I was to blame since I haven't had more than half an hour practice or so :-(

Guess I've kinda lost the interest in these cars. I mean they're fun and all,but I am frustrated by how they're just sliding all over and I don't get a feel for what the car is doing.
Historic GT is all about sliding as well,but it's a lot more controllable.

I want to congratulate Peter on the deserved championship title win and say a big thanks to everyone who's participated.

I'm going to suspend this chapter for a while and we can see what comes up. I'd really like to have a historic GT series. Who knows :-)

Until then I'll be racing the Le Mans Prototype Series. See you all there :-)

Yes LMPC seems like a good place to bring the Slow Sideways team together... I'll be there too if time allows.
