USA G2: Donington

Two drivers penalized 1 lap for failing to serve the mandatory drive through for a 1st lap punt.

I am pretty pleased with how it all went. Qualified in the top 10, and after a few laps I had settled into 7th. A couple of spun cars boosted my position also.
Had a great run with John M. and Dennis, and it seemed this battle lasted for 3/4 of the race. I was trying to put the pressure on John and force a mistake, whilst at the same time fending off Dennis who was all over me. Great drive from both of them, it certainly made the race time disappear very quickly. Full credit to them both.
I did lose a bit of time after getting stuck behind a backmarker for 1/2 a lap, and had to play catchup with John again. I was able to catch him through a few turns, but no passing oppurtunities arose from that, and the only other place I was going to get him was under braking at Goddards, but I never felt comfortable enough with that either, so 6th is were I was at. My tyres held up considerably well, and in hindsight I probably should have made more of them.

This was a really good race, and actually the first track that G2 visited that I enjoy racing all season.

Qualifying was disappointing, I wasn't able to tap into the speed I knew I was capable of. The start was rough too, lots of checking up and slow driving to ensure no one got hit. After the field spread out, I found myself in 4th chasing down Garret, then Rob and Matjaz up ahead. There was no hope catching Garret, so I just drove safe and waited for something to happen. Rob's car seemed to go away from him pretty quickly, and before I knew it, I was past him and running in 3rd. Gregg came up on me slowly but surely until he was riding my bumper with about 6-7 minutes to go. I knew he could get by me if I made any slight mistake, and I was feeling the pressure. I was running on 3 worn tire warnings, so I was struggling to stay strong mid corner and corner exit. But a lapped car screwed me up, and screwed him up even worse, and I got to drive my last lap and a half in comfortable pokey-ness :)

Just a quick word to people being lapped: I noticed some problems with lapped cars this race. I had 3 incidents where lapped cars slowed me down, on parts of the track that they shouldn't have. All I'm going to say is, if a car comes up to lap you, especially if they aren't there one corner and 3 or 4 corners later, they are, you should make a conscious effort to move OFF-line and then slow down (in that order, not one or the other) enough to let them by but not hurt your own race.

Good to finish one for a change; not the best of results, but fun in the doing anyway.

Had a bit of a meltdown in the early going while running 2nd when I realized I just didn't have a good feel for the car in race trim. Plus I had reduced the brake pressure a bit right before going to race and it caught me out a little. I'd almost gotten into Rob at the end of Lap 1 and was worried about taking someone out. Sure didn't want that to happen late in the season with me being nowhere on points, so I tried to back it down a bit and get myself collected. As it happened, I just ended up backing up a few spots and then threw away a shot at a podium by dropping 20 seconds with a solo off that bent up the front end. DOH!

Wasn't hurt that bad though, on re-entering in 16th, so I just tried to get my head back into it and see what would happen. Racing once a week or less is mucking with my concentration; may have to hold my nose and run a RACE07 event or two just to keep from rusting.

Gradually worked my way up and had a good dice with Rob for 8th late in the going. He looked to be hurting for grip pretty bad, so I wondered what had happened to him. He'd been leading when I last saw him and thought maybe he had some damage or something. Anyway, once into 8th there wasn't any time to close up further so I just tried not to go off again before the end. Almost made it... ;-)

Grats to the podium, especially Matjaz for just drilling it in the BMW. This may have been it for me in S8; nGT this Friday night's looking doubtful, and next week's not happening for sure. Was fun the little time I had on track this season!

After a straight up stall on the start and shredding the first set of tires with an overly tight setup and overly hammy fist I settled into something of a regular 'grassline' ;)

Very fun race and clean for the most part.I didnt do to bad had a few mistakes and a few that was caused by others.Grats top 3.

Not sure what happened, but I think my fears were realized, I never really had a good race setup and didn't want to explode the SEAT again.

My qual time was a little slower than what I'd done the night before, but was pretty close so I was happy with 2nd spot.

Got a ok start, enough to pull along side Matjaz, gave him lots of room but he ran wide so that left me in 1st spot. I knew it would be only a matter of time for everyone to start to catch me up as I didn't really have a good race setup. Sure enough they did, one by one.

Had some contact with Garret, but didn't think it was bad. He was gonna let me repass, but I figured what's the point, he had a faster race pace.

Then I made a mistake which dropped me to 8th spot. I could see Steve was catching and tried to hold him off, but again it was just a matter of time before he'd pass me, which he did.

I may know how to qualify the SEAT, but I can't seem to find any race pace in it. My tires were gone by 2/3 race mark - as in "Tire VERY worn" and I was on Hard/Hard. Obviously I haven't figured out this SEAT yet, but I think I'm out of the top 5 now, yeah!!!

WTF guys,what part of "take it easy in lap1"that you don't understand.I got a reasonable start and made up 1 place into t1,then into t2,2 cars went through side by side with 1 getting a little unsettled,i backed off a fraction and got slammed in the back.Off into the sandtrap and a flat front tyre.
