Pre-season Montreal

wow,this turned out better than expected for me.Only made one mistake and it was a small one. No damage. And then I ran out of fuel on lap 18, LOL .

That's what I get for not checking fuel consumption in Motec before the race.Oh well :-)

Anyway,the race was fun. Had some good battles here and there and the 50% damage seems like the right choice for the season. This track is going to be just as tuff as Monaco to finish.

Grats to all finishers and looking forward to next race.

Might have to squeeze in an extra fun-run before Christmas ;-)

after PLMS race I was tired and also out of pace (no practice for this fun-run). So to avoid problems I quit in qualify....will it be possible to d/l the replay of this race? thanks

Bah, the worst online grip loss in ages. Making the whole event a total waste of time here.
After prior practicing down to 1:34.0 in the race car, I could hardly get under 1:35 on the race day server.
Before joining I setup a Qual car offline, and it could do 1:33.4 to .6 range, but in pre-practice online it was impossible to even get near 1:34 on the server.

But Qual and the Race were to get even worse once everyone got out onto the track! It was if Race Control came out and said "We are glad you practiced with a Brabham because here is your Ensign N177 for the race!". The Brabham was the same ice-skate as the Ensign at Zolder, except not setup for that. Plus not expected.

For Qual I took out the Race car (low fuel) first, to be safer for some laps, but I could not get within 1 second of practiced times for it. Technically even it would be fast enough for pole or second anyway if it ran fine. And after that the actual Qual car only got three flying lap runs and all were impeded anyway, but none of those were never going to be anywhere near its best times anyway. Though two were on their way to going to be close to pole time, until catching traffic.

And the Race got even worse. Having such a slippery car, amongst other cars that were then going to be much faster relatively, was never going to have too much chance of survival. Though I battled on for the challenge anyway.

The car skated off turns, wouldn't slow enough, couldn't accelerate. So it took many laps to get to work out how to drive it and stay alive, let alone be anywhere near fast.
And just as I was getting more used to it and gaining some pace I came up upon Ralph who slid out of a chicane and looked to be heading to clip the wall, so I veered left in case he was going to slow dramatically from that, and of course the car had no grip to be able to do that so around it went, and into the wall to rip a wheel off.

It seems the worst grip loss cases are always for Euro time races. The US ones (7 hours later) are always a lot better, just with a touch of grip drop-off. But prior practices on the server, 8 or so hours before racing times, are also fine. So something is happening 'worse' somewhere (on the Internet) in that Euro race time period. But also not every time, just most times. So I have no idea what is causing it - though know it is data flow related.

Congrats to the podium winners (no results up yet so not sure who won!) LoL

Christian, guess the 50% damage will be the way to go. This track is brutal, yet there was a good number of finishers for this race - me included!
I suffered some small damage early on, but car was still pretty good. Would have been much worse with 100 percent damage.

I slowed down, waiting for you to catch back up but didn't realize you were terminally hung up on that horrible curb at the last chicane. Was very disappointed to not be able to continue our epic battle. : (

Hey Dan, that was a fun bit of racing we had there. It was a shame it was cut short. When I spun I did no damage but was high centered on the curb. I blew the engine trying to get it off the curb. I guess I should raise the ride height a bit for off-road.

Very difficult car and track. I havn't problems with Ligier in Buenos-Aires or Williams in Osterraihring, but BT48 in Montreal - it's smth. very special. Seems i totally missed with setup of the car and it was total undrivable. Additionaly, with green light i got hit from behind, from 16th place! Rear suspension was damage. May be man from 16th place wanted to win the race immediately after start? Sam Michaels?

Roberto: unfortunately ,it seems like there's no replays of these fun-runs.

Sandeep: don't give up. To be honest this was one of the hardest combos of car and track I've tried for a while. Probably only Monaco in an Ensign could be worse :-)

Give it a chance there will probably be more fun-runs in better cars ;-)

Dan/ Larry: good to hear you guys had fun,even though it ended with Larry stuck on a curb LOL.

I'm wondering if those curbs were as high in real life, seems a bit exaggerated to me.

Anyway,I'll ask Tim for another fun-run as there's another thing I'd like to try out before season start.

Hehe, the curbs actually were that high back then at most tracks. You can check out a video called 'Lap of the Gods', which has many onboard laps from F1 cars from '78-'83, and in Rene Arnoux's 1982 lap around here, he totally stayed off the curbs.
