Hi lads,

The title pretty much explains my question, but i'll go into a bit more depth.

Basically i am going to be building a sim cockpit over the course of this summer. Problem is i have no idea what to do. So my question is how do i build a cockpit? I dont have much money but i can spend a little.

I am looking for a low down, single seater enclosed type cockpit, so any ideas can be based around that. I need to know what materials, where to start, how to, etc etc.

It would also have to be able to at least let the pedals move back and forth so i can adjust it.

Thanks alot,

Richard.

For starters, you might consider using MDF(medium-density fiberboard) if the sides of your rig will be panels or 1x3 pine wood if your building it as a frame type construction.

The frame/chassis is simpler with less cutting. You can always add panels after you've completed the basic chassis/cockpit.

Start simple and then add too it if you want. That's basically what I did. Built something that would get me going, then little by little started to add/refine to add adjustability to the rig.

Go here for all kinds of cockpit ideas, heck, looking just now I saw an inspiration for my wheel upgrade project!

Cheapest thing I can think of is this: http://forum.rscnet.org/showpost.php?p=3764799&postcount=24

It's ABS pipe.

This is exactly what I am thinking about doing for mine.

Chris' cockpit build

The pics there basically show a chronological step-by-step of how I built mine for and around my CST pedals predominantly using 2x4s, MDF and a sheet of ¾" plywood.

I didn't have any plans or anything, I just kind of made it up as I went along and let it evolve.

Here's the blog post I made last year when I finished it.

Since then I've replaced the red Momo with a DFP and the speakers with a G51 set. Pic #1137 in the hi-res folder was taken recently.

Maybe the pics will help you get a basic layout idea that will work for you, or blend in some of your own ideas.
