You may notice there are surface type channels for each wheel - a value from 0 to 5 indicating the surface that wheel is on.

Here are what the values mean:

0 = dry track
1 = wet track
2 = grass
3 = dirt
4 = gravel/sand
5 = rumble strip/kerbing

Good for verifying those apexes are being clipped and helpful in tuning springs, packers and fast dampers. Also a reminder that those weird telemetry figures you are seeing is when you went off-track.

So...if we zoom in at the leading edge of a surface type 5 then we can see how our dampers respond to running up on the curb...and then the transition from type 5 to 0 to see how the car reacts when it comes off the curb. What do we look for and how do the damper settings effect the damper velocity/position? And, from what I understand the fast bump/rebound settings are the ones that make the biggest difference.

I dont see surface type in the channels options, where did you find it? I assumed you were creating a time and distance sheet....

I only know rfactor, so maybe the other sims don't transmit them. If you don't see them in rfactor, ensure they are enabled in the data_acquisition.ini file (whatever it's called), but they should be already unless you've disabled them.

I'll try to find some time tomorrow Steve to put an example up. Ignore the suspension channels in the picture above--it was just an image I had handy from testing something else.

Right Allen...GTR2 does not have that channel.

Ahh, found it, if you install the data aquisition software using the F105 CDTP mod used here at R2P then you get the old version which doesnt have these channels. Got the updated version from rFactor central and bingo!
