I am considering getting the ECCI wheel to complete my set. What size wheel did you guys get and how have you handled the reduced number of buttons etc...Thanks in advance

I have the smallest (and cheapest) wheel for road racing. You may like a larger one for oval racing of course.

I use the N52 Speedpad strapped to the center of my wheel for all my button needs.

You can see it in my thread

I too have considered upgrading my DFP wheel to the ECCI, but told myself to wait till it breaks. I've been waiting for a little over 2 years now. It is close to 4 years old now. I would have to change the wiring on the pedals from the DFP conector to USB too.

I had my eye on the momo wheel, but couldn't see spending the money. Is it worth it? For those who have also driven the DFP with the trackstar 6000 pedals, will the wheel improvement help me?

I hope I am not hijacking your thread Ray.

Thanks TIm - very helpful.

Mike- No problem - forums are meant for gathering info and your question is relevant. It is something I have debated.

I have already done the pedal upgrade to HD-USB and even added the clutch. I have ordered the Race Brake Stage 2 - it arrives tomorrow.

The pricing on the wheels is different because the standard wheel (I believe) is 13.75 inches). I don't do oval racing so I was thinking of going with the Pocono 11.5 inch wheel.

Momo 29 for me and my ECCI.

I also have the 8 button upgrade along with a custom "dashboard" with 6 additional buttons.

I use the Pocono-wheel with the 6 + 2 paddleshift. It's great for Sports- and Touringcar but for F1 I would like to have had the Momo. Too bad wheels can't be switched easily and a second set .... nehhh. :-)

ECCI's still have no force feedback, correct? That's another thing to take into consideration. Ed White at NASRL eventually sold his, in part because he missed the feedback.

You might spend some time with strong centering on and no feedback to see how you like it. FF is of debatable merit, but most of us are just plain used to it, for better or worse.

I have the 12.5 grant wheel. I like it but I mainly do stock car racing. I had a 11.5 on my TSW and my G25. I personally think it is probably the best all around size. But I gave up road racing because I suck so bad. I didnt want to go all the way up to the 13.5 wheel just in case I wanted to try rr again someday thats what lead me to the 12.5 good for stock cars yet will work for roadies if I need it to.
If you get the upgraded usb board you can add a bunch of buttons. I got the upgrade rewired my TSW speedshifter,Frex sequential shifter and add a button box. All run off of the USB board in my ECCI.
I started with a TSW tried a G25 thought force feedback was great for about a month. Decided I hated it and bought a ECCI. I am VERY satisfied.

Probably a testimony to my driving skills, but my sensation from FFB is pretty limited - I don't feel the tires sliding through the wheel but I hear the tires scrubbing, I feel stiffness through the wheel but my hunch is the ECCI provides that same stiffness. I don't care about feeling the wheel jumping in my hands when I hit a wall, I do hate the fact that on occasion I have had to re-boot because my wheel loses its centering after a big crash. So I am feeling no compulsion to hang on to FFB. In fact, I used a BRD wheel for a long time with no FFB and I don't think my driving suffered because of it.

I was leaning towards the Pocono wheel as well, partly due to its price and mostly because it is the closest to the approximately 10 inch wheel on the DFP.

Thanks for all the advice and keep it coming....

I think the G25 size (11.5?) can cover all types of racing comfortably, but like so many things in racing (sim or real) personal taste plays a huge role.
The G25 also has a deficiency in buttons, the way I got around it is a wireless logitech gamepad strapped to the center of the wheel: I know it doesn't look like the most professional thing but it is extremely practical, and the size is almost perfect. Only flaw: batteries. I had one pair of batteries run out on me in the middle of a race....so now I just change them every month or so just to be safe.
Always on the subject of personal taste: force feedback. I am 110% sure that if it wasn't for FF I would have already purchased an ECCI wheel. I refuse to pay what ECCI charges without that option. I know the mantra "some pros prefer without", and the "liquid fluid resistance thing is a perfect replacement" but I refuse to go back to 1997. I think that if you invest the time in tweaking the FF you get more benefits than without. The fact that I routinely get trounced by ECCI owners just shows that mine is just an opinion though!
