Bit the bullet today and started on my home built cockpit. Bought a new, (but vey cheap), bucket seat off of eBay some weeks ago. Saturday I bought 2x 8'x4' sheets of MDF, (1x 1/2" & 1x 3/4"). Some coach bolts for the seat rails, a bag of screws, and 2x 6ft lengths of 3/4"x 1 3/4" inch pine. Total cost so far about £60. I think I've got all that I need though I may need to get another length of pine which is one of the cheaper items. Today I cut out the base and I've also made a box frame for the seat to raise it about 8" off the deck so I can get my sub-woofer directly underneath the seat. It will be similar in design to this one ONE except I'll only have a single 24" Dell and a 19" for GTR2_PD and Vent. Also the PC will contained within the cockpit itself. Still to do:
Possible addons for the future:

The one pictured is excellent and clean...Whose cockpit is this and are there any plans so it can be duplicated? I would really like to see the detailed pedal set up pics as it looks like they are set up perfectly. |

Several more detail pics in the original RSC thread: RSC Thread Beautiful setup. There are some dimensions in the pics on the 2nd page of the thread. When I built mine (here), I built the seat platform first, then sat in it holding the steering wheel where I thought it belonged, and had my wife measure how far off the ground it was. So the major dimensions are based off the seat, and the rest were easy to make up as I went. The pedal inversion is quite easy to do, and worth the effort I think. It's completely reversible, very easy to reassemble back to original condition. Good luck and have fun, I had a blast building mine, and it was well worth the trouble. |
