For Season 14 I have eliminated the "start at the back" penalty for RFACTOR series. I want to run this season with weight penalties only and have made changes to the weight penalties to compensate for this.
Watching James Linton slog around yesterday with 250 lbs extra and being at the back with no opportunity to compete underscored the unfairness of having both in full effect at the same time.
I have changed the Season 14 penalty post to reflect this change.

:-) If you would like help revising the weight penalty for each mod you run, then i'm willing to help. I've had alot of experience with it this season :-)

My two cents here.
Sorry if it was already discussed in r2p.
What about a time penalty applied at the end of qualify?
The top 5 in the last race would sum accumulated 0.5s to the respective achieved times.
Lets say, to the last winner would be added 2.5s; +2.0s to the 2nd; +1.5s to the 3rd; +1.0s/4th; +0.5s/5th.
The time penalty could vary in a track basis or you can define a standard calculation formula based on the gap between the pole and the last valid qualify time (or another grid position you rule).
If you consider the time penalty calculation too laborious, a move down the grid also do the job.
At the end of qualy the last race winner move back 5 positons; 2nd backs 4 pos. and so on.
The weight penalty could be a complimentary rule.

In real life there are many solutions for this.

The Rank Weight Penalty should stay.
The Rewards Weight Penalty should go.
If higher ranked drivers continue to win, then the Rank Weight should be adjusted.
OR
The Rewards Weight could stay.
But any driver carrying more than half of the maximum weight would be able to qualify
And Start At The Back Rule would not apply to them until they fell below the halfway mark on the weight.
250lbs was very high... but if James would take the beer out of the trunk he might not have that problem. :)

The rank penalties stay. I have already adjusted them for Season 14. A high rank is usually a sign of a fast driver but only one that has established themselves and continues to build on their status.
The performance weight penalties are needed to address drivers that for whatever reason don't have high ranks but perform at a high level.
Remember the ultimate goal is to avoid the kind of domination that you see in other series (ie the E90s) In six series we have only had a couple of repeat winners so we have been successful in achieving that.
But just as I want to equalize the playing field, I don't want guys to start holding back to avoid penalties. If James had only been 18 points ahead in the championship the rules would have handed someone else the prize. This isn't what we want.

Michael, I'm really happy to see that the starting penalty is eliminated, I think it was too unfair.
About the weight penalty, I would only apply it to the championship contenders, there's no point on adding ballast to someone who can't win the championship because he just has a high rank.

I agree Pablo, I believe it was the NASRL that used the NAGT weight penalty a few seasons ago, and it worked great.

since the other topics were locked, I wanted to add my 2 cents. I LOVE the weight penalties. It provides me an extra bit of challenge in the event. I know what the possibilities could be, going into the series. If anything, it helps me become a smoother driver in the civic races surely.
Just my 2 cents..
