Let's get things kicked off properly, shall we?

What a day tomorrow will be, huh? Picture might get a little clearer, at least for a few days. Texas-OU, LSU-Florida, even Ok State vs. Missouri are all big big games. At least 2 and maybe 3 undefeateds will be wiped out. And don't forget the epic UCF vs. Miami (FL) matchup. What? Oh, right, nobody cares.

I'm hoping for a boring first half in Dallas- Got the Dubai race going until at least halftime!

Woohooo!

I have to admit that even as a life-long Alabama fan I still have some skepticism when it comes to fully buying into this years' Tide team. Fortunately it seems the players have completely bought into the Saban doctrine, which is exactly what this program needed. We all knew it was going to happen, but I don't think anyone thought it was going to happen quite this quickly.

I usually don't agree with or care about what Corso has to say, but after hearing his comment last night that this Alabama team was the best balanced on both sides of the ball that he'd seen in person to date, I had to grin - if for no other reason than because he said it on national TV with millions watching.

With UT and Auburn's completely inept offenses you're right Jerry, at this point the game in the bayou looks to be the most important one on our remaining schedule. BUT... Bama still has to worry about falling victim to a trap game. Thankfully LaMo isn't on this years' schedule, but Saban still better have them prepared to play 60 minutes of every game against every opponent. As dominant as they were for the first 30 minutes last night, he still has plenty of ammo from that third quarter performance to ride them about in the practices this week.

I don't think that line of thinking is too far fetched Josh, and apparently neither do the bowl prognosticators at CBS Sportsline. Last night in the ESPN wrap-up show May was predictably arguing USC's case to play in the title game despite the one loss (in that totally cheesy segment where they pretend to be litigators), but their weak schedule in a weak conference and their loss to a nobody/unranked opponent means that any one-loss SEC team can and should stay ahead of them in the standings.

Roll Tide Roll!

Yep, missed that one by a smidge :P

We could very well be looking at a season where there are 5-8 two loss teams in the mix for the title game.

Or LSU or Bama and Oklahoma could just win out and make it simple. But I doubt it.

I think we can probably save a lot of time if we just give the Florida-Georgia winner the crystal football and call it a year.
In the words of Lee Corso ... not so fast my friend.

Wow. Just wow. Nothing clears the palate of a bad lost, like watching someone else do the same. :)

Gators lose, at home in the Swamp. To an Ole Miss team that loss to Vandy! 3 times in the last 10 years, UF has loss to OleMiss ...
SAT time -
Oregon ST > USC :
OleMiss > UF :
Arkansas > LSU?
:D

Jawja gets spanked, at home.

Red River shootout looks like it's going to be a good one again.

Better set the DVR for Nov 8, Tide visits LSU.

With that creampuff schedule Bryce, there's no reason they shouldn't go at least 10-2.

BREAKING NEWS...

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the NCAA, in tandem with the FDIC, has shut down the Pac-10 and seized its assets in what is being called the biggest conference failure in U.S. history.

This according to sources inside the FDIC, which is still trying to find a buyer for the Pac-10’s assets on the whole. The source told the WSJ that most buyers are only interested in UCLA’s college basketball championships, but they are negotiating with the Big XII.

FDIC spokesman John Jacobson did confirm the seizure, but would not comment on negotiations.

“We wanted to put off the seizure until after Fresno State whooped UCLA’s butt on Saturday, but given what happened on Thursday night in Corvallis, we had to act to save those with serious investments in the well-being of this conference,” Jacobson added.

The FDIC is still searching for a buyer for the Atlantic Coast Conference, and is concerned that a loss by Florida State at home on Saturday could further jeopardize its efforts to liquidate its assets, as most financial firms seem to think only the “U’ has any upside right now.

Feds Call For 38 Point Bailout Of USC

Another UCONN win!!!!!!!!! 5-0 baby!!!!!

What's with the Thursday game? A little strange to see a top tier team play on a weekday. Although I've probably see it before but can't come up with an example off the top of my head.

Didn't see much of the game, but from what I did see, USC looked flat and OSU played inspired football. No matter how good you are, it means nothing if you don't come to the game with the right mindset.

I'm still not convinced that the chaos last season was a fluke. The once lower tier teams are getting more creative with their tactics against bigger schools and finding ways to surprise them with under-the-radar talent. You see the not so usual suspects in the 10-25 rankings such as BYU, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Vanderbilt and others...and they all have a chance to climb up if the bigger schools in 1-10 falter a little bit. USC certainly laid an egg tonight, but don't get to drinking, Jerry...a lot of football is left to be played and any other top ten team can falter as well. No one is immuned to anyting anymore...

Dammit Chris, looks like I jinxed them.
I need a drink. Scratch that. I need several drinks :)

Something in the water in Corvalis. I've now witnessed 3 different underdog oregon st teams beat USC at Corvalis. Would have been 4 if Reggie Bush didn't return a punt for a TD late in the fog, 4 years ago.

Had to work late, and didn't get home until the 3rd quarter. Did a double take when I saw the score. Bleh.

Props to that little running back they have, he had a great game. Mike Riley has been officially erased from the USC history books. Anyone who says he was an assistant coach under John Robinson is a liar.

Where's my vodka?

In fact, their let downs have been in trap games when they've overlooked an easy opponent (like WSU, oreg st, and Stanford).

Understatement of the week so far!

Musburger hates USC

Are you high? Musburger always has a favorite (last night it was Georgia) and when USC is on, it's always USC. He talks like's on a first name basis with Pete, John David (last year), and the rest.

Posted by Jerry Chen at 10:04 PM on Sep 21, 2008 Comment #26

Even if USC is as good as Musburger thinks, their schedule won't have them ready for a big game against the SEC or Big 12

I think you have the wrong guy there, Musburger hates USC. You're thinking of Mark May ... just ask Chris, he knows. :)

Georgia doesn't look like anything special. They couldn't put up more than 14 points against South carolina? Really? And ASU is overrated. Rudy Carpenter is a avg at best QB, and without a healthy Keegan Herring, they were a cake walk last night.

Same old east coast propaganda again. USC hasn't seen the speed or the size of the SEC or Big 10/12 or the blah blah blah blah blah.

You might want to ask Auburn, or Arkansas, or Oklahoma, or Michigan, or Notre Dame, or OSU, or Texas, or Illinois, or VaTech, or Nebraska, or ... well you get the point. Or maybe you'll never get the point.

A Pete Carroll USC team has never NOT been ready for a big game against an OOC opponent. With the exception of a freakish alien from Jupiter (aka Vince Young), the one thing USC will always be ready for is a big game. In fact, their let downs have been in trap games when they've overlooked an easy opponent (like WSU, oreg st, and Stanford). But hey, keep propagating the myth. Only makes the ass kicking on New Year's day sweeter. :D

Les Miles is a nut. That half back pass was genius, Auburn had been pressing the run all night long. We need more guys like Les Miles in college football, and less guys like Jabba Weis.

Was at Neyland yesterday and actually didn't think Florida looked that great; they just couldn't help but win with the Vols falling all over themselves like a bunch of hung-over highschoolers. Was downright painful to watch them get within arm's reach of the end zone again and again and blow it. Ug-Lee!

Brandon James was stellar though; killer lateral moves.

I think we can probably save a lot of time if we just give the Florida-Georgia winner the crystal football and call it a year.

Both of those teams looked like beasts yesterday, both against respectable talent.

Even if USC is as good as Musburger thinks, their schedule won't have them ready for a big game against the SEC or Big 12.

Are you kidding me?! What a great freakin' day of football!

I'm glad I stayed home all day to watch. Not like I was looking to go anywhere anyway since only one of my cars has any fuel in it.

On to the games!

All four of the SEC conference matchups had the road team coming out winners. Odd.

A statement game for the Crimson Tide today, as they really laid one on the Razorbacks. Two of the four INTs went for pick-six's, which should help the #1 run defense in the country move up in the overall stats nicely. Box score for Alabama RB Glenn Coffee: 10 carries for 162, 2 TDs. The Tide did surrender 100 yards to a tailback for the first time this year though, which will raise their YPG allowed on the ground to about 65. Next week, a true test in Athens against #3 UGA and stud tailback Knowshon Moreno, who just wrapped up a dominant win against ASU.

Florida showed just how poorly coached a team the Volunteers really are, underscored by UCLA losing again. Yikes. Tennessee has some good talent on that team, but the changes they made in the offseason aren't panning out well for them at all, and Fulmer's relevance as an "elite" coach in the SEC has come and gone. With the immediate schedule they have ahead, 2-4 looks pretty likely for them.

VANDERBILT IS 4-0.

The LSU-Auburn game was an awesome back-and-forth battle, and became a real nail-biter as the clock wound down. After the game when Les Miles was being interviewed by Holly Rowe, he deadpanned,

"...just another day in the SEC."
