Race2Play is launching Novice-style events. These events are tailored to those who'd like a better experience for their level of sim racing. The events are focused on having fun so some aids and reduced damage will be allowed. Some of our stiffer policies will be relaxed as well for less anxiety, but these are real events nonetheless: Rank and stats will count. The events will be rank restricted (0-4) based on the racing-type rolling rank. Exceptions may be made for some who do not fit into this rank window by contacting Tim or Todd with a request. Currently, all Novice events are scheduled as fun-runs but in Season 8 we will have points championships. We are not just talking about more Trainer events, either ... We're talking Extreme GT, Fabcar, Champ Car, and Formula IS cars! Start signing up for the events today!

My rank is barely too high for me to run these, but I`ll be keeping an eye out for the people who sign up so I can race them later. I don`t classify as novice anyway, more like a bad amateur with a stock car gene thrown in.
I'm not a novice, just slow. But unfortunately the GTR2 races are scheduled at days/times I can't make any of them. Hopefully some will be scheduled Monday thru Thursday evenings suitable to the western half of the US. Would be nice to see some Race 07 events added as well. But, at least this is a start, thanks.
I was just reading Ross Bentley's "Speed Secrets 1" last night and he recommended that the more experienced, struggling drivers should race in a few novice events just to learn how to win, and take that confidence back to their normal events. You qualify for the open wheel events Larry, I think you should join us in those! :-)
Whoopee!!!! I'll probly still be last, but at least I won't be getting lapped as much! LoL Thank you boyz (T&T), looks like I'll be entering more events now. It's a perfect mix of high performance cars for us slow guys! Let's see now, FIS, Fabcar, CCWS, Extreme GT - heck, I'll just have to try them all! : ) A very, very happy "speed challenged" sim racer, Dan
There! I did it. Signed up for FIS, CCWS, Fabcar and Extreme GT novice events. Now just have to figure out what to do about the wife!
*sardonic applause* Hopefully this has the lovely effect of turning the regular series the Amateur events are based upon into jokes that are shadows of their former selves (see the 10 car Formula Trainer fields as examples), right? Maybe in a few months we can have a vote so that those who never win in the Amateur series can participate in a Extra Amateur series where the field round-robins a new car into the lead position through the entire event so that everyone crosses the finish line in first and is a winner! *chuckles*
Ray, I take it you have never competed in some form of non-professional sports activity where the participants only compete against others with similar skill level. This is very common in amateur sports, and whether you are a novice, amateur or expert/pro, winning a trophy within your class is not looked down on just because your not competing against the best. This is the only form of non-pro competition where I have seen such a stubborn dislike for any form of real-world rank/skill determined classification. By keeping the number of novice series to 3 or 4, there should be no problem seeing respectable numbers on the entry list. Only the popularity of any particular car/mod or lack of will cause a series to show low attendance numbers. Ray, give it a chance. Why not join us and see what it feels like to be a little more competitive for a change. As a novice, and later as an amateur in moto-cross and district 37 desert racing many moons ago, it felt really great getting those 1st place trophy's. The evolution of R2P with it's new novice class is just a natural progression that keeps it inline with the rest of the non-pro sports world - remember, we do this for fun and the more people who can experience success within their group, the more folks will want to join the R2P success story. I don`t give a rat`s ass about winning a race. I don`t really care about whether or not there is a novice or amateur series. I do care about finding the people who are slow like me so I can have a race where I`m not on track all by myself.
It's strange Dan that I've never heard anyone calling a lightweight UFC fighter a wuss.
I'm in for the GTR2 events! And I'm hoping for admission to the open wheel rF (I'm 0.057 over the limit). As much as I look forward to running FBMW (since the current S7 FBMW is in a time I can't attend) my real hope is to try the tougher CCWS and FIS classes finally... without fear of screwing up the veterans. =) And no... winning a trophy is not my goal here either. Just broadening my experience in a lower pressure setting. |
