Completed race sim cockpit!!! With pics
10:29 AM on Nov 16, 2007

We'll, I've (wife gave me the go ahead LOL) made a decision to build a cockpit. A fellow league member (Mike K) is willing to give a few(5-6) hours to help me build one just like his. I have a mazda seat with the rails to start with. Ecci pedals and a Logitech Red Momo force wheel(old but good)will be the other goodies. I'll post some pics of the build and the outcome.
Had a busy Sunday!!! I met Hutch at Lowes at 9 am and we proceeded to buy what I needed to complete the build.
Here are some pics of the build

All in all a great day. We started the build at 10:30 and completed it around 2:30. A great big thankyou goes out to Hutch (Mike)!!!!! I had been wanting to build one for a while and now there's one in my computer room. I ran a race last night in it and finally didn't have my computer chair sliding out while braking!!!!! Looking forward to tweaking it to my liking over the next few sessions. I'll keep everybody up on the process.

Good luck. Ive built 2 of them so far. One tip for ya, be able to adjust your seat pedals wheel and monitor when you are done. Whats comfortable in the garage for 5 minutes isn't always comfortable in the computer room for 2 hours. Cant wait to see some pictures

Cool Bryce, I especially like when people post the step-by-step pics of their cockpit project. I also would like to build (or buy a prebuilt) cockpit in the near future. My PC hardware has always been up to par, but an office chair and an old maple desk isn't going to make it in this neighborhood anymore.

Oh Bob, you've got to build/buy a cockpit. I just can't imagine driving my original contraption (S1/S2) that had a beach chair with sponges on the arms to make it comfy! LoL

I'm currently driving in what looks like an erector set, but it's completely adjustable and very comfy (cheap Chinese copy of Momo T-Frame seat)

Expect to see plenty of pictures Bryce, have fun building your rig! : )

My only regret in building my cockpit was not doing it sooner.

Good luck with yours Bryce!

A great big thankyou goes out to Hutch (Mike)!!!!!

You're welcome Bryce, it was my pleasure to finally shake hands, and to meet your wonderful family. I enjoyed the build quite a bit. We got lucky with a decent day to be outside, and only had to re-do one minor detail at the beginning. Not bad for a couple of hacks with tools on a Sunday morning :)

PS, Almost finished the salsa already, it was good! I'll report on the wine soon.

Nice looking cockpit. Can someone share the materials used on this project. I got the so-so ok with the wife to do one as well, LOL. Only stipulation it's gotta go to the Attic which is finished, LOL.

Thanks and again nice pics ;)

Enjoy

Great to see I'm not the only bald SOB at R2P!! Oh, and nice rig man! You guys just make it look to easy. Sadly, the only tools I can handle are a mouse, keyboard and pen.
