It's just about a year this week that I decided to fully commit to Race2Play. I did, back in the summer of 2008 try out in a race. At the time, I was searching for something different as I was strongly opposed to the idea of paying to race. It also marked an unsettled period in my life of what I was up to.

As I've said before, my journey here was a bumpy one with involvement in leagues that left me with more questions than answers. It was around this time I decided enough was enough and I got talking to my good mate and former team-mate - David Brown.

I signed up for the E90 race at Monza and was sitting on the waiting list. The more I seriously dug about Rac   [... read in full]

Two blog posts in one day! It's like the old adage about waiting for a bus and then having two come along at one!

The VW FunCups came to Mondello today and I took the opportunity to head up to see them. I have a soft spot for the FunCups. They were the first car that I found a lot competitiveness in. A lot of wins and two championships in two seasons of it before I decided to give them up full-time to try new cars.

So when the opportunity to see them live was one I wasn't one I was going to miss. The UK series of the FunCup had a round at Mondello Park - a six hour enduro race, no less.

It was fantastic to see these things in action. The amazing thing I foun   [... read in full]

No, no.. not hooking up with an older woman. Well, at least not for anything longer than a night!

This week has been a pretty big game-changer for me. You ever have those weeks where everything just happens to go right? Well, I got myself one of those!

First off - I got my car changed. As some of you who follow my blog, I recently got myself my full licence. In learning to drive, I was using my parent's old Alfa 156 - a car that would put most boy racer cars to shame. The utter joy of driving a two liter car with the amount of power under her.

My old man was right, there are probably few driving experiences outside of super cars that can match that.

Back in November, I wrote a blog about finally learning to drive . I was late to the party, as I kept coming up with excuses not to throw my full weight behind it. Long treks to my work placement and my current course changed my mind about getting the job done.

Six months on – got the job done! This morning I did my test and passed her in flying colours. Last few weeks have been tough. I gotten to the point of been ready for it, but exceedingly long waiting lists meant that I had to wait over two months for my test date. Actually applied in February for today’s date!

Have to admit, it was a   [... read in full]

This is a bit overdue. I had plans to do this shortly after the fBMW race at Ruapuna last month, but a shopping list of issues and other commitments saw me only having the time to get around to it now!

During the first race, I had a cracking battle with Barney Fox for the final spot on the podium. It was that good; I wanted to show it off. For me, I think it is a great example of the sort of close racing you can have when you respect your fellow driver and trust him not to do something crazy.

What makes this sequence stand out for me is that the sort of side-by-side action we had, particularly for how long it went on, is the sort of stuff you expect from tour   [... read in full]

Last night turned over a few milestones for me, including crossing the threshold of 100 races here at Race2Play.

The funny thing is, the day of the race, it had been bloody awful. You ever have those days where anything that can go wrong, does? Last couple of times I have had those and realised I shouldn’t race, they ended badly. I didn’t have that much choice though, as I was in a rip roaring battle for the Tuesday Night Chapters Formula BMW – a three way dance featuring myself, Zak and Milan.

The thought of it being my 100th race quickly disappeared once I hit the track, especially as I was trying to overcome a lack of speed in the car. The nice thing is, t   [... read in full]

The Daytona 500k marked my first Special Event here and I have to say, it left me looking for me! It was a unique experience to say the least. Mind you, it is often you get a chance to think about whether you are being on shown live on TV when you are trying to stay on the edge between speed and disaster.

In the run-up to this race, a lot of practice was committed by me and my team-mates. For myself, including the 500k, my lap count around Daytona stands at over fifteen hundred. I can easily say the fourteen hundred or so done over the past two weeks definitely helped with the hundred and nine completed last night!

Today I managed to qualify for my first Race2Play Special Event – the Daytona 500k.

I’m delighted how well I’ve qualified the car. Eight position in a competitive field is no mean feat. Of course, I’ve seen enough Superspeedway races to know that qualifying isn’t that vital. The aim is simply to make the race and let the rest sort itself out from there. Still, always nice to be placed high!

I’m one of a handful that actually hasn’t recorded a stock car start, fun-run or official, here at R2P. However, I do have some stock car experience – going back a few years ago in NR2003. From the moment I committed to this, I was under no illusions. If I wasn’t ready by    [... read in full]

We all here the stories of been told not to do personal stuff on a work computer, under fear of been fired or being spied on by nosey bosses.

Even one better, is people being stupid enough to make silly comments on their social networking sites about their bosses, jobs etc and getting quickly put out on their rear.

This lad though, takes the cake - as no doubt will he not only be fired - but has to deal with global humiliation for it all. From about the one minute mark, watch the chap at the computer just to the left of the main speaker.

The chequered flag at the FIS race at Spa last night marked the end of my first full season here at Race2Play. To call it a success would be an understatement in my view! It’s pretty easy to say that my decision three months ago to commit to R2P is easily one of the best sim-racing decisions I ever made.

I joined properly here around September 9th, making the call to try things out. (I had signed up a year ago, tried a race but didn’t stick around – too young, reckless and not smart enough to realise that was the ideal home for my talents.) Honestly, I was aiming just for as many top-10 finishes as possible for the first season. Given the wealth of talent acro   [... read in full]
