The Lost Generation - David Tremayne
Aug 13, 2008

I received, after having procrastinated over ordering it for a long time, The Lost Generation: a marvelous book by motor racing journalist David Tremayne. One of his previous books, Racers Apart, is one of my all time favourites in my rather large motor racing library, so for a long time I've wanted to order his tribute to Roger Williamson, Tony Brise, and Tom Pryce-- the subjects of The Lost Generation.
As child whose love for Formula One started barely out of diapers and in the early 1970s, these three great British drivers loomed large in my consciousness as I was growing up. Of the three it was dear Tom Pryce, a genius in the mould of Rindt and Ronnie, who spent the most time in Formula One out of the three. Williamson and Brise, alas, had their journey cut even shorter than poor Tom; all three met Destiny's darkness all too early and in cruel circumstances.

100 Races
Nov 10, 2007

Tonight I reached what I consider a milestone here at R2P: my 100th race. I wanted to share some of my thoughts on this occasion, and express a few words of thanks. I joined R2P in December of last year, and I arrived here in part because of an article in Autosimsport and in part because one of the people I raced with in an other league took part in a F1 Historic event here. One visit to the web site and I did not need much more persuasion to sign me up, everything about the site spelled things I like: community, well-organized, real names, statistics, a multitude of events and sims supported at various times during the week and weekend. To be honest, I find it hard to believe that any serious sim racer would not want to be here. R2P quickly became my home page.

My first event was a fun-run race at Jarama, Spain in that beast of an Alfa-Romeo 1979. The whole race [... more]

rF3 and the troubles of being
Jan 18, 2007

Slow! Have not raced the rF3s since, well-- when LO's F3 hit the "shelves"! I know they are not exactly the same thing, but I was hoping to be a little quicker out of the box. I practiced at Brands tonight, briefly, and I was slower than my wife getting ready in the morning. Okay, I was on "get-to-know" my car and on full tanks (25 laps) but for the love of Jove! Low 26s, and not achieved easily. I am going to need a lot of practice for next Thursday's start of the season.
Love the track, and this version is beautiful. Silly Paddock feels like the start of any relationship: you dive in eager to discover, you have no idea where to start slowing, where you are going, and when and where you should get out of there. What a turn: priceless.
The whole track is wonderful, very challanging and full of blind spots. I must shamefully admit that I never spent a long time th [... more]
