So, at work on friday, lots of things happened. One of them was the GM telling me to fix something that wasn't broken. She thought it was broken because it wasn't doing what she expected it to do, but in reality, it was doing exactly what it was supposed to do. Makes a lot sense doesn't it? heheh.
At work I am the SysAdmin, we have 8 servers, one of which is an IBM ISeries (AS/400). One program it was running was working as it should, but the GM insisted it was broken and that I fix it. I did get it 'fixed' knowing all along that in doing so, something else would inevitably break. But this was uncharted territory for us, so I didn't know what would break, just that something would, and something did.
I had to call in the techs from corporate to fix the program, but they had to remote in to the servers, one at a time, and reconfigure them, which of course took some tim [... more]
It's monsoon season and the rain has arrived in southern AZ. It's even a week or two early. The forecasters sure blew it today - it's monsoon storming real good right now, and they predicted a sunny 102 degree day today. It's 84, raining hard, windy, thunder & lighning, fantastic! Been months without any rain here, that's why we have a monsoon festival (last weekend). It's as dark out there as it is at 8pm (in other words, headlights are required if driving right now). Had to open all the windows in my apartment, turn off the A/C, getting some fresh air flowing through. The walk to the laundry room was a bit wet a few minutes ago, and probably will be when I go to move the laundry to the dryers. Jeez, can't even see out the window now it's so dark and rainy.
Just stepped out the chat with the neighbor, we were just about shouting and standing only 10 feet apart, the no [... more]
Just catching up on the news and blogs here and it looks like I missed a real bang-up race last week, heheh. From the post-race reports it sounds just like a real-life WTCC race - lots of door-banging and pushing each other around. Isn't that what these sims are about? Simulating real racing as much as possible?
This is from Top Gear's first season, 1996 I think. The interview starts about half-way into the video.
Then later in the show Jeremy puts him outside, in the dark and cold wet evening, and leaves him there alone, so he can see what it is like to be a spectator at a rally event. Later in the show they show Richard Burns on the monitor, trying to keep warm, and a car goes flying by, water spraying all over him. He doesn't make another appearance on the set after that, so we guess he found out what viewing a rally is like from the spectators point of view.
Last week I finally got a job, after 2 1/2 months or so of looking for work. The hours suck, but the pay is good. I work Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 7am to 7pm and Monday 7am to 11am, giving me 40hours in 3 1/2 days, then the rest of the week off.
My title is Computer Operator 2. I am in a server room monitoring IBM ISeries (AS/400) servers (these are 'mainframe' computers, for those who don't know what an AS/400 is), we have 2 in this room (plus 8 racks of other servers), plus 5 more AS/400's in another building across the lot. We monitor all of the AS/400's - print jobs, backups, all running jobs, etc. It's a 24/7 shop here, at least I'm not working the night shift. 12 hours at work is a long time, 12 hours between shifts is a short time. But, it's a job and the pay is good, so I'm not complaining.
What happened to my blog entry people were debating on - the most recent one about Chertof and the Great American Wall? I can't fine it anywhere.
EDIT: Check this out -

Todd and I decided that the argument was crossing a line that we do not care to cross.

Censorship? At R2P? I can understand it when it falls into the categories you mention, but this is simply a political issue, and there was some good debate following it. Offensive? Everybody's opinion about anything is offensive to somebody, it's an opinion [... more]
It seems my recent blog posting about the Great American Wall was just a bit too much for some members of R2P. It appears that some of the debaters did more than just debate the subject - they started a little mud slinging. Actually, it got to being more than just a little and the admins decided it was in the best interest of the R2P community to stop the debate. I can understand that part and have no issue with it. The only part that I don't like is that the blog entry and ALL the replies were removed.
I've exchanged a few emails with Tim about this and we both know where we each stand on the issue. He and Todd were doing what they thought was best for the community. He also admitted they may have gone overboard by removing the blog entry and all the replies. I concur. Will this bring the blog entry back? And the replies that were civil? Posts that many of us took muc [... more]

I am sick and tired of seeing the same questions pop up time after time after time, here and elsewhere. But especially here. And what's up with the people who want to know how to do something but don't want to look for the answer? These questions keep coming up, and the answers are posted all over the place. Not just here at R2P but on other sites. DO A LITTLE SEARCHING FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! Want to know how to skin a car? SEARCH! IT'S ALL OUT THERE! !@#@#$@! Jeez, you can't always expect the answer to be handed to you on a golden platter, with everything explained to the nth degree and not a single detail left out. PUT A LITTLE EFFORT OUT ON YOUR OWN PART. I found the answer to the skinning question on RSC - they have a very good tutorial online. If I found it YOU CAN FIND I [... more]
You gotta wonder, but anyway...
A guy in one of the 4x4 groups I'm in got an email that says:
How would you like to have bought this property? Imagine you're going to live in Portugal. You find a lovely farmhouse set on a decent plot of land. The place has been empty for 15 years... While exploring your new property you find a large barn. The door is padlocked, and welded shut, and it's Rusted solid. So you grind the padlocks, and the welds, off and.......
The pics show some incredible stuff.
