A Visit to Imola in 2007
May 02, 2008

After the Belgium Grand Prix last year, we continued our journey to Italy for great food, landscape, art, espresso, people, food, espresso, etc. The house we were staying began to get much crowded because of friends and other family members coming in for my wife's mother birthday in the next week.

So we decided to hit the the road, rather rails, and went to Ravenna to see the Byzantine mosaics and the eastern seashore. But we would be back for the big 80th birthday celebration.

We went back to Bologna to rent a car, originally a cheap Lancia, but we ended up waiting for several hours and got an Alfa at no extra charge. Very fun car to drive. The intent was to stop at Imola and see the track and the Senna statue. But it was late and the the roads would be mountainous and twisty so I hesitated and my wife said no, "we've come this far, we need to stop at Imola."

Impressions and pics of Belgium GP
Oct 20, 2007

OK, better late than never. After the race I could only do e-mail on the Internet a couple of times. We traveled twenty plus hours on Saturday and got into Brussels in the afternoon in time to have a meal and walk around the old section of the city. My wife, who had been trying to separate Italian phrases from French phrases, immediately got confused by the all the French in Brussels. In the evening we plotted the route by train and bus to Spa-Francorchamps.

The train station was a madhouse but Julie's ability in French came in handy when buying the tickets. At first we ran into lots of English fans who had crossed the channel. But then huge groups of Tifosi seemed to be everywhere. We talked with some young Australian guys on the train ride who had been to practice on Saturday and said that the place to pick up tickets was not the location listed in the [... more]

Vacation
Sep 08, 2007

I will be off on my long-delayed vacation on 14-Sep-07 and returning in a month. I will be busy tying things up at work and the house before I leave so I will not be able to make any more races.

Going to Italy via Brussels and I will be taking in the Belgium Grand Prix. I was wondering how to post pictures here at R2P.

mini break - enforced by meds
Apr 14, 2007

Due to a somewhat scary asthma episode earlier in the week, I have been on some meds that affect my reactions so I have had to withdraw from the last two races I had registered for.

And I thought steroids were supposed to increase your reaction time and make you bigger and stronger. Baloney! All they do to me is make my head feel fatter and and very detached. Combined with anti-histamines, it is not a good to be driving or sim racing.

Hope to be able to race Monday pm.

First race
Mar 25, 2007

Finally, a race at R2P! Had trouble with team speak at my first registered event - the "fun" Elise race at Barca National. Real first race in Spec Rhez at Lienz Altstadt. Slow and not even steady. Hopefully, gave everybody a wide berth. Seem to never get the last corner onto the main straight quite right. I plan to do better next week!
