I have twin boys who will be 4 years old in a few months.
They know daddy likes racing. They know daddy periodically "has a race". They know daddy works in the basement, and they know daddy's (homemade) driving cockpit is in the basement. They think daddy's a racecar driver. Can't say I do much to dispel the notion :-)
One of my boys was coloring while I was eating lunch. "Look, daddy, a racecar. You're a racecar driver. You race in the basement!"
They don't think that's *all* I do, as 99% of the time they come downstairs I'm just hacking away on the computer and not driving ... but it is what captures their imagination. (Them and that cockpit, man ... like moths to a flame.)
They love the movie "Cars". They know the championship in the movie is the Piston Cup.
I finished second in the GT class in the Season 1 enduros, and Tim sent me a trophy. I have it front and [... more]
Hey. How 'bout that. I'm the only member to be Ranked in at least four of the different racing disciplines!
Reminds me of the "Saturday Night Live" private lounge for the celebs who have hosted X number of times, the sketch they bring out when Tom Hanks or Steve Martin or Alec Baldwin hosts yet again.
Yes. It's an exclusive club. "I'm not just the president, I'm also the member." :-)
So much racing, so little time.
In the span of less than 24 hours, I ran the NASCAR Cup cars at Loudon, the F3 open wheelers at Silverstone, and then a three-hour multiclass sports car enduro at Spa Francorchamps!
I saw different guys in common through the different events. The racing was clean and challenging at each one. I share my experiences with one single community instead of three ...
... Did I mention I'm digging it? :-D
I've made questionable purchases in my life. I've made regrettable ones. This is NOT one of them :-)

It's a 1972 Pontiac Firebird. This is no trailer baby, either ... I drive this thing. The No. 1 criteria in my search was something that had been restored to very good mechanical condition.
The previous owner had all the restoration work done, mostly to original but with a few exceptions: The original car had a single exhaust, but it now has dual exhausts. The motor was rebuilt with a few performance parts, most noticeable being the camshaft ... It has a wicked awesome sounding idle.
"Blup blup blup blup blup vrrrrmmmrrRRRROOOOAAAAAARRrrrmmmmm blup blup blup blup blup ..." :-D
The original 350ci motor is actually 357, according to the build sheet. It has the three-speed automatic transmission (the first automatic I've had i [... more]
I was driving the roads recently when I noticed the SUV up ahead had some unusual writing on its rear window.
At first I thought the writing was backward, like you would see on the front of an ambulance so it could be read in your rearview mirror. That didn't make sense: Why does this person want to read their own window in their own rearview? So I closed the gap for a better look.
As I got closer I saw the writing in fact was upside-down. I made it out ... "If you can read this, ROLL ME OVER!" Ha ha.
Huh.
So I rolled the tosser. :-D
